    Shop Relocated -

"I will admit that I suck at sales. I've tried many times in the past to open up sales businesses with no great success. I guess my problem is I tell folk both the good and the bad about what I sell, which is not too clever. I also tell them when I do not recommend what I sell, which also...

    Making Winter Blend Diesel

Anyone have any success with the different bio blends? Around the midwest, it is getting pretty hard to find a diesel (summer or winter) without some bio in it. And this makes it harder to drop the gel temperature too. As for needing it to be ULSD, my ol' LB7 could care less about that...

    Making Winter Blend Diesel

I've searched around but can't seem to find if anyone has a table showing approximate mix ratios between #2 and kerosen to achieve a desired winter blend diesel. I know on the farm, we have just thrown in x amount of kerosen to try and reduce the poor point of what was left in the tank. With...

Question: 6L80 AWD to 2WD conversion

Don't know if the 6L's are like their older brothers, but some of those transmissions needed to have the output shaft swapped when going from 4WD to 2WD or vise versa. That's probably going to be the biggest pain if it's needed.

New Banks Power plats at the PRI show

Don't suppose there is any information about what pistons or fuel injectors are being used in these engines? With the problems the big horsepower guys are having, I am wondering how will the ~1000 HP engine hold up? Obviously, Banks does do quite a bit of testing, so they must have made some...

    Duramax Books?

I try to keep some "notes" of useful tidbits that I find, but was hoping someone had already written them all down ... at least all the interchangable parts ones. Oh well, I guess its time to keep jotting down notes.

    Duramax Books?

Not sure if this is in the right place or not, but I thought I heard that someone most likey Guy had written a book documenting the differences on the vintages of the Duramax engines. I tried a quick search and looked at his website but didn't see anything. Anyone know if such an animal...

    LB7: Updated Quad Build

Truely amazing! What are the extra supports attached to for the low pressure turbos? It's hard to tell from the pictures exactly how they are supported. Also, what pistons did you end up putting in there?

    Allison 1000 6 spd to 5 spd

Guessing that the 06 TCM is different than the rest of the 6 speed TCM's? I always figured that if you had a type of TCM (5 spd or 6 spd), you could, with EFILive reprogram it for a 8.1, or Duramax. If that were the case, then all you would need is the rare 8.1L Allison TCM operating system.

    Casper's Autopsy Bonneville '09

My bet is that there is curve (trade offs curve) for how much time at what level the forged pistons are good for. This will be highly dependant on the tune (timing, pulse width), injector size (same things) and duration (how long it is at full power). There are some other variables which...

Getting a duramax to last at 1000RWHP

Basically, it will just increase the back pressure .... not good for your turbo(s). I would do just like the jet boats, straight out the back :) As for keeping the charge temps down, a water to air "appropriately sized" will do the job just fine. The key will be sizing to live at the delta...

Getting a duramax to last at 1000RWHP

Those engines are not performing the same duty cycle. Those are on / off the throttle. A marine engine typically sees a much higher on the throttle duty cycle than a road race car. My guess is that you will need some monotherm pistons first in order to sustain that kind of power for that...

    Casper's Autopsy Bonneville '09

Any chance that Mahle is gonna start working on making one??? Hopefully your abuse of their forged stuff is finally showing that these won't do much for the high horse power applications.

    Casper's Autopsy Bonneville '09

Anyone know what the difference is in size of a Cummins piston vs. the Dmax piston???? I know that Cummins offers a monotherm for the 5.9's and maybe even the 6.7 ... How much do you have to bore a Duramax block to get one to fit?

    firefox 3.5

Yup, been using it for ~1 month now. Had the previous one too 3.0.x. It's a slightly different interface than IE but the key for me was that most of the bad stuff is written for IE.... not Firefox (... yet).

    OK so what

True sleeper for making money ... one of the 80's Olds that came with a 5.7L diesel. Put in a Dmax and make sure and tell everyone that yes, it's a diesel. Don't pop the hood, and start setting up races :)

    Two Oddities

Any know if you can take an LLY TCM OS and put it on an LB7 truck? Maybe it only works on the 04's??? Early 04 = LB7, 04.5 = LLY Yes, I would like to eliminate the converter unlocking if possible.

My 2.5 ton Duramax Pics and video

I'll throw in that in IL, also an instant ticket. I know that when I built my 1 ton, I used a 6" lift and LOTS of clearancing to fit my 44"s. Yes, I got them fit and they do clear, but it is not near as cool as this monster!!!!

Two Piece DS center support bushing

I know this is probably not an approved method, but I have a friend with a 1 ton, 4x4 Dodge dually with a 5.9 in it. After his bushing went out for the 2nd time, he simply filled up the air space around the rubber with RTV. The black stuff I think. That has held for over 50K miles. And yes...

    Weels/tires for best milage?

Don't suppose you know what size / brand of tires those pizza cutters are???? I haven't seen any tires with those spec's listed.
