well, dealer said no one the warrenty. they were just trying to help me out.
so now on to phase 2.
build or motor swap. doin research now......

I agree with everyone else here - do it right or swap in a stocker. Sounds to me like swapping in a stocker would be the best route for you. Get the one from Nelson, swap it in and have your motor sitting on a stand. Then as time and money allows you can slowly gather parts and build your motor right.

It is sometimes overwhelming to build a motor and a budget doesn't ever seem to work. I started with "I'll do pistons, rods, and studs to get it back together". But then I realized that if I'm spending that much I want to just go all the way - do it right the first time and be done. Now I'm doing:

Crower Rods
Cut and Coated pistons
main and head studs
custom socal cam
Socal Stage 2 heads
H bearings
SoCal damper
LBZ intake runners and custom Y-bridge
Custom 3.0 VVT
100% over injectors
Oil cooler setup

It's taking me a lot longer and alot more money than I planned but when it's done I'll be done with it for a long time.

Did you have any luck with finding a motor?

nope. just going to do a mild mild build.

here is todays progress of 12 hours... all electrical disconnected, power steering/brake hoses, egr half way off, alt, ac, other small misc stuff.

tomorrow... disconnect fuel lines to motor, finish pulling stuff off top of motor, unbolt from tranny and pull!.

so i got the motor out today. took longer than i thought. 14 hours today. also got more of the block stripped down, but i forgot to take a pic of it. the head gasket on the back of 8 is leaking. oil was super thick with some sludge when i drained it. 1,3,5,7 exhaust manifold had lots of oil in it in 5 and 7. a bit in1 and 3. driver side seemed fine.

tomorrow: make a napa run, then pull the heads, and the rest of the junk off the block and get to see what went wrong!!!

oh ya got a turbo question. will post it up in turbo talk

hole in 5:D i got melted piston in my cylinder, so 20 over for me.
also got a hot spot on the rod at the top for the wrist pin. discolored and metal slightly raised. kinda hard to tell in pic. i circled it in red. may need some rods too..... going to take my stuff to SoCal Diesel tomorrow

guy has a sweet hi tech shop!!! so the spot on teh rod is aluminum from the piston he said. so in the next day or two ill find out what shape my rods and crank are in, and how much the block need to be bored.

now the waiting game......

small update, block being bored 20 over. getting cut and coated pistons, new rod (only one, and it will be stock:(), head studs, new bearings and needed machine work:)

i was bored, so i started porting and polishing my heads. :eek: i didn't realize how much work i was getting myself into:rolleyes: oh well, its only time, and kinda fun.
