You think it was that 50/50 mix tune that caused it or altogether just running too much power on stock parts? Would just suck if it was that mix tune and hae this happen all over again some time down the road.

Park the truck and ride a bicycle and save money until you can do it right. Seriously.

Or get a credit card that has no interest for 1 year for your excess.

its a work truck full of tools. i wish i could do the bike thing. as far a money, its already going on a card:mad: it would be different if i had signed contracts for jobs in the upcoming year.

i need a sponsor

so strictly on a reliability factor, you guys don't think stock rods will hold? this is a d/d / worktruck. im never going to be doing dual fuelers, bigger turbo, twins, nitrous, nothing. that won't happen till i decide to turn it into a toy only truck which won't be for a long time.

all i want it to be able to run my race tune a lot, and not have to worry about my pistons. i don't really race much ( i think my truck has 30 passes on it max in a years time and 15K miles. 1/8th mile track) most likely ill be running my race tune and the one i just posted up 50/50 because its such a good d/d tune for me

If you keep it under 500 hp, using your stock rods will likely be ok. Anything over that or if you run nitrous you are pushing your luck. The LBZ/LMM rods seem to be holding better than the LB7/LLY ones do.

IF you are dead seat against replacing rods, at the very least I would have the stockers measured to make sure they are not already shortened or bent.

Seems like there is a good number of piston issues around lately. Does anyone have a logical explanation as to why pistons are becoming an issue?

put it this way another 10,000$? or so and your truck will be like the slogan "Like a Rock" you could most likely run 700HP from a very long time and be never have to worry about it again. If it is done properly to begin with. If I was you I would have guy install and machine everything into a block he has there then send him your block that way it is done by someone who knows a little bit about the Duramax;)

i agree. ive already talked to guy and hes going to do the machine work. but ive always wanted to build/ rebuild a motor. i have the resources to do it and friends with lifelong mechanic skills with a shop where i have done everything to my truck. so i just have to bite the bullet and "git er done." lifes a leason. time for me to learn to build a motor.

Yep, I pretty much felt the same way the first time. I didn't know what to do. It was my only ride at the time. Luckily I had some good friends that had the ability to loan me something to drive until I could find a cheap beater to get around in. I learned not to cut corners because a build isn't something you want to do again. I'm stuck driving my cheap beater again because my bargain connecting rods didn't hold up like I thought they would. I'm now building the engine like I wanted to the first time. It costs money, but the peace of mind will be worth it. I can't tell you how worried I was about hurting the engine again after I built it the first time. I won't be concerned about anything this time; I'll just get to enjoy the power.

There is another alternative, find low mileage LMM engine spend the 3,500-4,000 whatever it costs and run that with a 100hp tune until your finances allow you do it right. Personally i would not put 10,000$ on a credit card in this type of economy unless you know you'll have zero problem with paying it off. Mike(MMLMM) and Chad(Alligator) did the same thing and have been running there replacement stock engines for a long time.

x2 on the 10K, but i thought mike was running a built motor?? wasn't that his sweet burnout with single stack pouring coal? or did he sell it after he built it? i know chad did a stocker

crappy thing is there is a motor from eariler in the post for 3600 i could buy now. but im will to do 5K for pistons, studs and machine work. but if i have to add rods to that, the line is crossed and i have to look for a used motor. unless i can find a REALLY SWEET DEAL ON RODS. but ave yet to tear into my motor which wont happen till NEXT weekend. so i don't konw what exactly i need.

I agree with paint. If you can't afford or don't want to build it right, just put a stock engine back in it. Good luck with whatever route you chose.
