Found the noise in my engine

Here is why it's hard to get an accurate protrusion measurement. Granted skirt measurements should measure .035" more. Still I think the block is no longer usable unless a .090" piston is available. Umm.. the blow by was horrible.

Found the noise in my engine

When Mick measured like this suggestion, the smallest measurement was .020" but, this was on the edge with the most head to piston damage the biggest was greater but by how much depended on pressure applied. The gasket measured after removal and uncompressed but previously installed of course...

Right on Dale, Thanks. He's only got a caliper at the moment for measurements.

Found the noise in my engine

The problem is getting the piston square in the hole and guessing at how much piston material has been beat off. It may take a bit to get the answer.

Found the noise in my engine

Look at the first picture, shows how much the piston was contacting the head at idle. Over time, 2000 miles, the knocking got worse. Wrist pin wear and connecting rod wear from thousands of small bangs. As you know, with rpm, connecting rods stretch slightly from the obvious. Also, with such...

Matco is supposed to have acquired the parent company. My local Matco dealer says they have the only guarantee agreement.

No Pat, I was just saying Mick would say what comes natural and may break a few rules. That's all. Maybe I should be more clear. Sorry folks.

Sounded like that but no, just help. He'd be banned if he told it like it is. Don't read more into it, We work together for hours a day.

uhhh so this is bad right....?????

Loctite helps more than I'd ever thought. Ever hit a bolt head with a hammer then backed off? Otherwise that bolt was stubborn and only stripped. That same vibration but of course smaller, happens as that engine is running. Some places are effected more than others. JMO

uhhh so this is bad right....?????

Torque converter bolts for sure, just torque them to the specs called for by the grade on the head.

Wow Ben, that sucks. Good thing you caught it. 10.9 grade 19mm length from washer 10mm x 1.5 thread and pitch. Good luck.

Found the noise in my engine

Ya, I probably get too involved for most folks believings, after all how the hell can you with so many miles between. Well believe me, it's possible with technology. I've worked all but first hand on his projects and he has mine. We watch through video and listen from.... Sucks though...

You were pretty close when you said it sounded like a valve noise.

Found the noise in my engine

A couple more cylinder numbers. I would think if the block was true on both sides ( identical even side to side ) the piston wear to head would be consistent but it's not?
