Oil coming from the pan at that temp means that's hot as it'll get, from soaking up heat from pistons and such.

Those temps are fine

Guage is digital autometer. 0-300°
Temps start dropping almost as soon I as get out of the throttle.temps dropp. 1° per 2-3 seconds.
Truck always seams to run better with oil temps 190-200°. Vs 220-230

He said 235* for 600 miles that's pretty hot for a long time...

Especially with cardboard pistons :D

No that ain't hot at all. Running a consistant 250-260* is pretty hot. You will run 230* temps without an after market cooler, load on the back and the middle of the summer here in AZ just on flat ground.

In the summer I run about 240* up all the hills for miles at a time, usually turning 2600-2800rpm. That was before gearing and cooling stack cleaning though.

Hitting 260-270 for long on reg dyno oil will cook it and it's no longer any good. Synthetic is best for high temps. Your generally good to about 300* with that.

I try to keep it 220-230.. Obviously I need bigger coolers hills/long grades are 230-240
So you're probably looking at what, post cooler temperatures at 10 - 20 deg or so less than that? If so that's not unreasonable at all.

I think you have lots of cooling and just became another victim of a stock LMM piston. Time for a mild build.

Well that's where I worry. Ive seen 240 many times in 50* weather what would my temps be in 100* weather :D

So you say these temps aren't hot but they could still be cooler

What I found is that oil temp vs egt aren't linked.

High engine rpm oil temp roses egt drops
Low engine rpm oil temp drops egt rises.

Any dmax pulling more than 5000lbs needs some help in oil cooling. The killer bee kit I had on my gmc that james has now cured every low oil pressure issue I had while towing.

Lol they would NOT be good.

Yes they can always be cooler to a point. I just wouldn't be worried at 220-230 by any means. 260 is my cut off point even when I'm running syn oil. Generally when my oil is that hot though, my coolant is 230-240. The new fan should really help that though cause my fan was not staying fully locked the last year or two when towing in the summer

Fingers pistons 17.5:1 or 18:1bore/balance. If everything else is in spec..Talked to several machine shops.. Got one lined up... Will have a partial short block to drop off come Tuesday morning

So he did get it right the cooler needs to be at least 2.5 quarts and his stated heat rejection rate of 121,000 btu.

What fan/fan clutch are you using.?

Interesting, even getting oil to 240ish my coolant still never got over 200. And I don't use synthetic so I want my temps cooler than 240

Sean.. I avg 120-130° above ambient temps.. Highsail loads and head winds can easily tack another 20-30° on to that spread.. Even with slowing down. It has at time gotten to a point that I park it for the day and finish the run at 2-3am in the morning
