Ford is very impressive with what they are running. Paint, you are running the WD pump? Matt's motor is stock so I would say he's taking it some what easy on it. Jeff

from what i've heard and seen for myself is nitrous is just as hard on engines as anything else is.

Sorry I am not whining nor do I care if people use Nitrous. I was stating my "Strong" opinion on nitrous and the use of it.

I apoligize for coming across like an ignorant 23 year old kid without a truck. (Which I openly admit......see sig.)

I have have been very fortunate to be able to play with a lot of vehicles that I have little to nothing invested in.

BTW one doesn't need a full blown trans to go fast at the stock level. You only have to add the transgo kit and a converter. Even though it seems to me that most don't go that route. Take that in to consideration in the mod for mod statement.

your 23? thought you might have been 13....

So any said 6.4 stroker can run a converter intake exhaust and a tune and run a 12.99?

We need a converter, intake, exhaust, tune, transgo, tierod sleeves, frp valve shim? and lift pump. For the same 12.99 but we will be 500 pounds lighter on any given truck??? 7600 to 8100??

We don't need an intake. To put a Duramax (especially LBZ/LMM) at 12.5 (7.8 in the 1/8) on fuel it really doesn't take much:

Holley Blue lift pump - $120
FPRV shim - $1
4" straight pipe aluminized - $300
Sleeves - $85
Spring clamps - $10
Budget trans build to hold ~540hp - the most expensive low budget option would be a SC Stage 3 for $2250 but there are cheaper ways that would hold for at least as long as this Ford will/has. Precision converter, TransGo Jr and some Altos.

It'll do 12s without the lift pump, shim, or trans but the trans won't like it for long. UpnGone did 12.9s on a Transgo Jr without limping it.

Add nitrous and it would easily be in the 11s (7.5 in the 1/8)

So IMO has the Duramax been dethroned - not in the least.

As far as the nitrous or not arguement - I think it is just as respectable either way. The thing that makes it stand out on a #2 only run is that he could add nitrous and be running even faster. Paint, if a guy buys a cheaper turbo than you (say a used S300) and runs your times does that make it less of an accomplishment? Than how does N2O? Racing isn't about how much you spend it's how fast you go, if you can do it for cheaper than everyone else more power to you.

They dont need a converter. 500 pounds isn't the weight difference in race trim. Closer to 800 for most and some over 1000 pounds difference.

Where is everyone losing all the weight on the GM trucks that the Ford guys can't loose? Tailgate, spare tire, jack etc, back bumper/roll pan and second battery. What else is there to loose? Maybe seats if you are really hard up? Are their stock wheels and tires that heavy?

What are Ford's claiming for a race weight? 8100?

"Race weight" is subjective.
My race weight is exactly how I drive in the gate...I don't even take the spare out of the bed...or the tool box, etc....my race weight is 7600 lbs with me in it.

Others would strip off what they could to get to their race weight.

There's no set weight for any truck.

As far as I know...he truck in question in this thread ran at full weight....which is a bit over 8100 lbs with driver.

You totally missed my point i'll make another analogy... at my highschool there was the normal primary school then there was a secondary highschool in its own wing these are kids that can't function in standard classrooms... the State of California grants them a high school diploma just like mine but there education was based on an easier, less intellectual style system. Basically if they showed up they passed my highschool wasn't set up so simple we actually had to work and put fourth a strong effort to succeed and graduate. That is how i view the use of nitrous when it is used in anything less than pro street but apparently I am of the minority vote so i'll leave the topic alone

apparently there are 2 people in this thread determined to look like asses. I ran quite a bit faster than you on motor only with a smaller charger. so do i get to say you were in the slower class at school? There is no right or wrong. For me it's about going faster.

wow that is how you perceived my statement? it was an ANALOGY I was ultimately saying that I feel nitrous is a secondary to #2... I have no quams(sp?) wth you at all I think your truck is impressive I wouldn't call someone unintelligent because they used nitrous???...the Spruils have one of the fastest Duramaxes in the country I wouldn't call there stupid. if I did I would def. be an ass.

thank-you paint.

Kinda like in my H.S. you had kids like me that took college prep with 5 years of math in 4 years. Algebra I and II, Geo, Adv. Math, and Trig. Physics, Spanish I II and III.

Then you had the kids that took basic math and 4 years of gym class or person health or whatever they called it and had 2 study halls everyday.

Not that they were stupid kids. Some of them went on to trade school like body shop, mechanics, plumbers, police, etc etc and are doing VERY well considering the piss poor economy.

Some of us take the harder more expensive way around I think was what he was saying.

I think Bigbird is scared someone is going to pop his I went fast and spent the least amount of money bubble. To which I congradulate him for budget racing. If he's happy, I am happy. It just isn't the same way I would do it, which doesn't make it wrong. It's just one of the 14 million ways to skin a cat. There are probably a lot of people out there that think it's stupid that there are people that race trucks.

My biggest complaint with nitrous is that it is not accepted at 95% of the truck pulls which is what most everyone does around here. If you even have it on your truck around here people will accuse you of cheating and everything else under the sun so nobody runs it.

thats so werid we are talking about DRAG RACING.... where unless you are at a competition you can use what ever you have the money for. what about guys that run the stroker kit? that cheating too cuz they spent MORE money then you did?

how about this rather then turbo size classes we group trucks in how fat your wallet is. this entire thing you take the cheaper way out is stupid. guys that spray run a very high rick of blowing something up. just like someone with 2xCP3's or a big charger.

What a dumbass thread this turned in to.

I personally don't run nitrous....right now.
I have in the past and I will in the future....it's a long damn way from cheating on a dragstrip. In that world it's the difference between getting paid or getting your ass handed to you.

:spit::spit: This thread is hilarious

I just think everyone is bored.

What that Ford did is pretty darn impressive no matter how he did it. Not too many low-12 sec Ford diesels out there unless the owner spent ungodly amounts of money.

As for nitrous, its tempting, but too risky to me. But it would be nice to run an 11.xx just once.
