That's part of the seal, that ring is why u have to seal drive it, an can't install the seal in the cover then install the cover. that ring will come right off, I use a 2ft. screwdriver with slight pressure applying in several locations. then toss it in the trash.
On the front of the engine take a screw driver an ever so gently work the ring off, applying slight pressure every inch or two, patience, then take of the oil pump gear, then you can use a 2 jaw puller to pull the oil pump driver gear an the tone gear they come off in one piece they are bolted together again patience it will come off pretty easy with the help of the 2 jaw puller.

Thanks for the information! I will try the screw driver method in the next couple of day. Now I get to clean up all the silicone on the timing cover, flywheel cover, and the oil pan.

Why are you wanting him to pull the oil pump did I miss something? also do not unbolt the front gear set in that pic they are set in time balanced as in one from the factory.

You would not know off the top of your head if those seals come in the gasket kit from GM do you henry?? I will take both of them if they do not come today in the kit I already ordered..

Gm offers 2 gasket kits and there both a waiste of money. They come with alot of gaskets you will not use or need. They should have the front and rear main seals in which ever kit you got. You still ordered head gaskets right ? they do not come in the kits. For the most part I can get you almost all the gaskets you need and the o rings balancer bolt flywheel bolts and the new cam bolt and the orings and coopers for your injectors and head gaskets and also the Gm gray sealer for around 599.00 and then shipping

I wasn't planning on removing the oil pump or the front gear set. Is there any gaskets or O rings that should be replaced? I got some o ring and copper washers for the injectors. Is there anything else that I am going to need for the injectors?

Thanks for the support!

You got the right o ring and the right cooper seals for your injectors right. The coopers should look like they have little tips on the inside edge. Other then that you need some Gm gray sealer for the front cover and rear adapter also should replace the 2 orings that were on the rear adapter to block to be safe. also when you install the front and rear main seals put alittle sealer on the inner metal ring we has some oil come past there on a LB7 we built and that fixed it right up.Also becareful with the the oring on top of the water pump that to the black tube and the little oring that slides inside the cross over bridge they can leak if there old or if your rough with them putting them in.

Excellent! I gave you a call this morning asking about the different seals and o rings. Is there a good time to get a hold of you?

I did not order them the engine builder did, but yes he got C grade head gaskets seperate from the gasket kit. I knew from reading on here the kit was not the most cost effective way to go, but I wanted my truck back ASAP and did not have time to figure out what I needed and did not need. .

I need new balancer, cam, and flywheel bolts?? :WTF2: I planned on putting the motor back together tomorrow:(

I didn't say anything about taking the gear apart, wtf read, they bolted together, they come off in one piece, an the assembly fits on the cranksnot which is keyed for that, I'm just trying to help the guy, get off me, I thought is was taking the engine completely down.

I thought about it for a few days, but decided to use the motor as it was. I saw a small leak so I decided to fix that instead. Bigger project then I thought. :D

You lost me with this I though I missed something somewere else. Also I would not use a 2 jaw puller on this one slip and it could get messed up easy.and with someone that has never had one apart when you say its bolted togther just state dont unbolt it lol its balanced from Gm.

That is good to know.

I was reading one of Matt's threads, and someone stated that the cab needs to be lifted 1 to 2" on the LMM in order to remove the motor. Do the fenders need to come off in order to lift the cab?
