I got the truck started this morning. The bad news is I have an oil leak. The leak is between the flywheel housing and transmission. I am pulling the transmission now. It looks like the lower oil pan can come off without removing the engine. Is this correct? What about the upper oil pan. Do I need to remove the motor to pull that if I need to.

I know on my 05 I can remove/change both the upper and lower pans with the motor in the truck, so I would assume you can with an LMM aswell but I'm not positive...

It looks like the rear main seal is leaking.

I used the recommended tool to put the seal in place. Any ideas on what I should do to make sure the next seal doesn't leak?

Use some loctite around the crank to seal area this time as in the metal ring surface.

After looking at it for a little longer last night I think I can do the same. The front bolts on the upper pan will be a PITA, but it can be done.

I know on the LBZ and older truck you can drop the center cross member under the pan and the pan will drop down think there is 4 bolts 2 on each side.

It's a pain to get the transmissions out since I have twins and headers. I have to remove everything on the PS to get where I need to get. I don't like the sounds of hit and miss with the seal, but I guess thats the nature of the beast.

You should have tried to buy jaydcc69's lmm motor instead, you would never need to work on it, it was keep in great condition and recently powered his truck to 7.67 1/4 mile fuel only with a vgt
