    The time has come...

I too moved to Idaho ~7 years ago because it is such a great place, with so many freedoms. On the one hand, I want people to be able to enjoy our freedoms, but on the other hand, many of the people moving here don't understand/appreciate/tolerate our freedoms, and start to erode them. I think...

    The time has come...

Welcome to Idaho! Land of dirt bikes, machine guns, and as much hiking & camping as you can handle.

    She's alive! - Thanks Everyone! - 1 last question

Depending on what was done with the servicing of the injectors, you might just program all 8 to the same value. I would leave it alone for now and see how it runs/idles. Maybe someone more familiar with the newer motors will chime in. My vehicles are all LB7, which don't have individual flow...

    EPA strikes again

Yeah, the emission system diagnostics on many gas cars (and especially foreign cars) is a joke. A friend of mine swapped a Honda S2000 motor into a 1960s Sunbeam (emissions exempt in Idaho) and had me do the wiring. Removed cats, removed air pump, blocked EGR. I used a handful of resistors to...

    She's alive! - Thanks Everyone! - 1 last question

The glow plugs don't need to go in a specific location. The fuel injectors should go back in the same spot, though, as each one has a slightly different flow rate. The flow rate data is programmed into the ECU by the dealer when the motor is built. A copy of that is stored in the glow plug...

    Crank / Cam Signal Emulator

I don't think there is any internal restriction on how fast the ECU will allow an engine to rev. I know there isn't on the LB7. I have a log file from my brother's old truck where I got on it, it lost traction and picked up RPM so fast it spun the balancer on the crank. It picked up 2000+ RPM in...

    EPA strikes again

I'm not advocating tougher gas emissions, just speculating that when it happens, there will be more pushback than what they currently see from diesel owners. It is just a numbers game. If the same percentage of gas particulate filters see issues as DPFs, there will be hundreds of times more...

    EPA strikes again

^This I've seen a TON of F150 Ecoboosts roll more coal than my LB7 Suburban thanks to crappy tuning. And I bet their NOx levels aren't all that great either. If you are trying to keep a high-boost gas motor alive, the easiest way to do it is running VERY rich. That leads to the same...

Would EGR issues cause trans slip?

The EGR codes won't cause the transmission to slip. It sounds like you have the classic slipping 5th gear. That is caused by more power than stock, and the Allison is designed to reduce clutch pressure when the torque converter locks, which makes 5th gear especially prone to slipping. The...

LB7: Kill switch to stop thieves

You could easily wire a magnetic reed switch to the DSP2 input on a LB7 instead of a regular switch or keyed switch. I would also do the DSP2 setup, especially if you want to get EFILive anyway. Ben (duratothemax) retrofit PassKey 3 onto his GMT800. That uses a unique coded transponder inside...

LML Floor Mats = Valet Mode

You could get adjustable pedals in some GMT800 applications, such as the Suburban. My Quadrasteer is fairly loaded, and does have adjustable pedals. I think it is only missing the rear seat DVD system and XM, neither of which are a big deal to me. The 2003 6.0L gas throttle pedal happens to be...

LML Floor Mats = Valet Mode

That reminds me, I should log my Suburban. I just added WeatherTech mats, and I run my pedals all the way forward because I have stupid long legs. I remember wondering at the time if it would cause a problem or not. Wouldn't surprise me if I have to move the pedals back a smidge.

    Twins with Twins, Anyone?

You've got my lathe beat; best I can tell it is from 1890-1910. Still works fine for a lot of things, just not as easy as modern lathes. Want to cut threads? Yeah, that'll take 15 minutes to set up, and there's no such thing as metric. Change speed? 5 minutes. On my dad's Jet, 15 seconds...

LBZ Coolant leak dripping on front driveshaft

Valley can be head gasket, but it can also be turbo coolant feed or return, cracked turbo center section (never heard of this but theoretically possible), EGR cooler feed or return, the cooler itself, thermostat gaskets, coolant crossover pipe gasket, or the heater core feed or return. You might...

LBZ Coolant leak dripping on front driveshaft

Get a coolant leak test kit. With the engine cold, pump the cooling system up to 20 PSI. Now crawl around and look for the leak. It will be easy to spot. I've done this several times, adding pressure when the engine is cold is really convenient, since seals and everything are still loose, and...

    p0016 tricks to find source

I think you'd have to pull the whole front cover. I don't think you could see enough through the seal hole. But you could try, maybe with a borescope? The right answer is to get a scope and watch the 2 sensor outputs and compare to a known working truck, but comparing the marks might reveal a...

    Leak off WIF sensor

Since you've got the filter delete anyway, sure, might as well put the WIF delete cap on. Or just bypass the whole filter head. That's what I do on my truck. Then you don't have to worry about the primer inevitably starting to leak one day.

    Leak off WIF sensor

I've got an AirDog pushing 10+ PSI on my Suburban, and the WIF sensor doesn't leak. It's possible you got a bad WIF sensor, or a bad O-ring on it. That, or your AirDog is set really high on the pressure adjust. I'd put a different WIF sensor in try again. Probably just bad luck and got a bum part.

Oil priming after build - leave glow plugs out?

If you used a high quality assembly lube, you should be fine leaving the glow plugs in. I did mine that way when I built it, just unplugged the FICM fuse. But it is less stress on the engine to remove the glow plugs. My engine was fired the day after it was assembled though. If yours has been...
