LB7: Should I be scared to buy an LB7

True, 6th is quite nice! I have the Suncoast 6-speed kit in my Suburban, and I am really strongly considering the DuramaxTuner 6-speed kit for my GMC. The kits won't pay for themselves in fuel mileage, but I think they are worth it for in-cab noise levels alone, plus keeping engine RPM down...

Looking for a little more umph when towing

You can easily & safely (for your engine) get 400+ HP at the tires on a LB7 with just a tune (such as this one I wrote and use to this day). However, the Allison behind the LB7 was very weak from the factory. You WILL limp your transmission with any meaningful tune. If you are willing to put...

LB7: Should I be scared to buy an LB7

I must be insane because I prefer the LB7. I own 2, and my brother owns 1. The LB7s do tend to be a bit cheaper to buy, but you're doing good to buy one much under $10k here in Idaho, and it will need injectors at that price. I suppose it depends on how you look at trucks. If you want something...

    L5P L5P Tuning

You'd still need a delete tune. Those just let you remove the modules without breaking the CAN bus loop and losing communication with downstream modules. If you put these on a stock truck, it'd throw codes like crazy.

*sale of the week-sac lb7 injectors*

Any word on when the SAC 0% will be available? I have a truck that needs a set.

    Can anyone identify this?

Could be an employee (or ex-employee) trying to get admin login credentials to the PC or some app, or trying to get CC data but they sucked at configuring the logger. There is no reason the hotel management would use that. If they wanted to record keystrokes, they'd use software on the PC. You...

    PT cruiser

They're not a bad car if you can get past the styling. Don't really have anything useful to add, just wanted to say I'd been following along. Always nice to see progress on projects, even the occasional gasser.

    Lets talk heads

I've found that good remanned heads for my LB7 run $1,200-1,400 from a shop I trust, ready to run. That includes surfacing, recess the valves as needed, pressure test, valve guides as needed, seals, etc. I imagine LLY heads would be very similar. My brother and I were talking about putting L5P...

Yukon Dura Grip Rear Differential ??

I've never actually driven a truck where the G80 still works at all (they have all been somewhere between open diff and open diff with horrible grinding noises). But my Suburban has the stock clutch-based locker (not a G80, but similar AFAIK), and it is really freaking sweet. A stronger G80...

    l5p 220 denso alternator on a lbz

I have a 300A modded AD244 on my GMC. I was thinking the L5P alternator might be cheaper than a modded AD244, hence my interest. A high quality AD244 in the 200+ amp range is $300+, and it looks like the L5P 220 amp is $250-ish.

Allison 5sp: Nightmare in Idaho, Built 5spd killing Transfer Cases

x2, this should be a very easy diagnostic for the shops. The Allison has a (very basic) hydraulic failsafe mode when the rear connector is unplugged.

    DirecLink Brake Controller

Having used both, I prefer the P3 over the P2. I feel they both use the same code/accelerometer internally, but I find the P3 has a more intuitive interface. I've had a P2 fail (stopped running the brakes and would run the truck's batteries dead overnight), but it was a decade old, so I don't...

    l5p 220 denso alternator on a lbz

Hmm, I think you're right. Thinking about it more, on cold starts, the voltage comes up to 13 right away, then jumps up to 14 once the glow plugs are off. I bet that's the voltage drop across the fuseable link I'm seeing. Maybe I'll put a new one on sooner than later.

    l5p 220 denso alternator on a lbz

I'm still running the stock fuseable link from my LB7 alternator with an aftermarket 300 amp alternator LOL One day it'll pop and I'll put some real cable on. But since the ECU controls the field to regulate voltage as measured by the ECU, any losses in the undersized cable are compensated for...

    Crank / Cam Signal Emulator

On the LB7, you could just invert the sensor table (like when swapping a LB7 -> LBZ with the fuel level sensor). Not sure if the newer motors have a table or if it is a hard coded formula. Hopefully it's a table, then your schematic would work fine. Might have to play with the time constant of...

    Lb7 wont start

If an injector was stuck open, you'd have smoke out the exhaust from that cylinder, and it would probably make a knocking sound while cranking as that cylinder tried to run. You might have a plumbing problem. I'd take the fuel feed line loose off the CP3, then pump the primer and verify it is...

Allison 5sp: Nightmare in Idaho, Built 5spd killing Transfer Cases

I'd let them put in the core, then go to a shop that has a clue. You won't be out any money, though you will have gone from your old known transmission core to an unknown, which is a bummer. But probably the best financial thing to do, I think. Sorry to hear all this.

Help: Dialing in help for a gtx4294/gt55 lbz stroker!

If you think the gate is opening and bleeding off drive pressure, you can temporarily put a boost reference line to the top port to hold it closed. Leave the other ports open to air. See how it spools then. But I am with Ne-max, I don't think the wastegate is causing the smoke on spool. It is...

    Sac injectors

I have SAC +75% injectors (Lincoln / S&S for what that's worth) and my truck starts great in the cold, down to 13°F so far. I never plug it in either, not worth the electricity cost IMO. SAC injectors take major tuning changes vs. VCOs to be happy in the cold. I ended up using less pilot fuel...

    Lb7 wont start

It is all guesswork without a scan tool. You'll waste a ton of time trying various things that may or may not fix the problem. If it was me, I would wait for the scan tool, then you can see what is happening. If you have nothing better going on, I would recommend checking the FICM connectors...
