Hmm...bringing this back up for shtzngigglz
Long winded bla bla bla...but I'm bored! And looking for un-dmax related input. Does anyone here also drive/have driven a 911 turbo?
Some of you know, Ive been through a couple rigs since my last post in this thread...
The R was fun, til it tried to kill me and I've also passed the torch with my TBSS now too...it didnt try to kill me but it was never going ti be what I want....so just ol max parks in the stable these days.
So, back on the hunt for a respectably cool car that can pull minor family duty (by which I mean: basically physically haul more than two butts around)...primary importance here is: something FUN, classy, sporty yet still 2+2 seating and, hopefully, bring a spare set of undies, fast! Something slightly different yet iconicly cool, something that was DESIGNED and built to be DRIVEN!
I've wanted a Z06...FOREVER! Granted it doesn't fit into the 2+2 seating arrangement, but its the car I've been pining for, for YEARS. So I drove about a dozen over the course of this summer and I've got to say, I wasn't nearly as enomored with them after owning a high powered diesel, a full suspension APR stg 2.5 Golf R and then my bolt on, tuned, lowered/stanced AWD TBSS.
Id finally had it with the obsession of owning a Vette with the kast one I test drove. I test drove a modded N/A Z06 and once out and about (on this closed test drive course) I disabled the nannys and set it in track mode, got out on the hig...errr, open part of the course...and dropped a couple gears and laid into it...I let the LS7 eat, thru a couple gears too...only to think "that's it"? The salesman looked at me with an ear to ear smile and said "now that's fast!"...he seemed butt hurt I wasn't impressed. He verbally said he thought I wanted to joy ride the Vette...I took him for a ride in my truck and he saw where I was coming from...
Its baby talk around here, but its a fact nonetheless, owning a 600+ HP diesel changes your perspective a bit about "what's fast" and leaves little readily or feasibly available, thats capable of truly impressing your senses. Most people laugh giddy like little kids when I show them a boosted launch, or roll on 3rd Thu 5th and into 6th...I've become complacent with my truck and forgotten what a rush it truly is and many times people tell me they've never been/gone or "felt" angthing that fast before
DIESEL TORQUE BABY!!!
I have to wonder, as I walk away from a test drive of a track worthy street car... is it the experience of a tuned Duramax diesels torque or the need to incessantly tweak anything with wheels, constantly looking to improve feel, handling, strength, power, ET, etc. In pursuit of making "the perfect for me" rig, whatever scope of perfect it is, thats in your sights that your eyes see when you look at your wheeled baby, and your butt feels as it gets planted further into the seat as you hold the skinny pedal down
I've driven numerous cars trying to find the right vehicle to fill this vehicle void in my life, I've owned several cars looking for "the one" including Sandy (my LBZ)...
I really must confess and say a BMW can easily fit the bill, and fit well, if not perfect for most. BBbutt, they're just like butts, they're EVERYWHERE! And I hate them.
In my NOT SO humble opinion, BMW is practically the McDonalds of mass produced "automotive performance engineering" think about it...2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, 6 series...you want a 4cyl, 6cyk, turbo 6, V8, SCV8...pickles, onions, mayonnaise or katchup? Oh, you want cheese, there's always the "M" which has gone soft now...truly an amazing vehicle, but not for me...
Cars I've sifted thru thusfar
Z06
CTS-V...NO
WRX...NO
NEW Camaro Z28...just for fun cuz I got the green light..and NO
3000GT...NO
300ZX 2+2...NO
VW...no way, Im done with them (maybe a tdi for a ecobeast)
Audi S type, not for me
Volvo...yes I said Volvo, and negative ghostrider
Any BMW...NOPE!
My options are/were getting thin, and so was my hope of finding the car I yearn for...until about two weeks ago when I stumbled upon a revelation thsts been pretty mjch sitting in front of (yet above my means) for a while...a car thats designed, built and expected to be DRIVEN! A car that might tolerate me...and it is a 911 turbo, a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with X50 package...the one I'm looking at is a tastefully modded 996tt with 26k miles. Finding this car, driving it, smelling it run, feeling it, it changed my life. Seriously. I know that it may sound totally rediculous to most, but Finding the "perfect car" is like falling in love with something equally as difficult and as mystical as the perfect woman...I've never connected with a car like that before...but then again, Ive always had a soft spot for German women too
Ahh, I digress...anyways, if ANY OF YOU OUT there in cyberspace are still reading red eyes burning, I'm "close" to finding the "perfect car" but Im wondering if theres any Dmax brothers out there also on the 911 clubsport scene?
I'm not totally sure the 996 that I'm looking at is "the one" although it does have a few inticing details...it comes with an upgraded 911 GT2 clutch, upgraded mandrel bent stainless headers, upgraded K24 turbos, performance intercoolers, bigget injectors, Tubi exhaust, Evoms intake and Evoms stg4 tuning that dyno'd at 565/535...to all 4 wheels, yup, for those that didn't know, the 911 turbo from the later 993's and up was AWD...except the GT2, the GT2 only wants to kill you...and I'd love to give it the chance
I've also come across a 2011 911 carerra S 997.2 shot in Mexico blue, that has the 3.4L flat six. Normal carerra's are N/A engines, but this carerra is supercharged with 6.5 psi and claims to make 475 to the wheels...for about the same price as the 9 year older mk1 996tt
Has anyone here ever owned a 911 turbo, specifically a 996 and/or a 997.1? I've only driven a 996tt but I've sat in several 997's, the 997.1's a're harder to come by around here and for a nice low mkle one, they're about 20G more than what I aim to spend.
The 997's have so much more going for them in the cabin, the economics, materials, finish and tech are all far superior to the 996, the 996 is practically spartan in comparison...its still very nice, especially the mk2 996 equipped with the infotainment package, its still "good" by today's standards, which is great for a 15 y/o car...but jump to a 2006 997 and it still fits in, with amkngst mkst of today's modern dashboards and stereo equipment...which is pretty amazing for nearly decade old tech
Lol, big issue, sure I get it, but I'm kinda torn here, I have practically ZERO experience in the 911 realm and the design change from 996 to 997 is substantial. I hoping to find some help with the question "a low mile 996 or moderate mile 997.1
And before you guys start hating to hard, my truck will more than likely be going up for sale:baby:
