Does it get a graphics wrap at some point?
Can you remind us again what the goals are for this boat with this engine combo?
And out of curiosity, what made the owner decide to do duramax engines? Are they just crazy diesel folks like us or what?
Ya know I'm starting to think the Aussie's are possibly bigger gear heads than us... We were just speaking yesterday about the Holden vs Ford rivalry they have in sports cars.
A 100mph diesel cruiser had been a dream of his for several years, but no one over there was willing to tackle it. I was first person to say Hell Ya!!
Choice of hull is what ya might call a sleeper. Baja has never been considered a high performance design. More in line with a Mustang vs a Lambo in the boating world. This boat was likely the fastest Baja ever built, with top end around 96mph according to people who knew it. Previous owner posted a speedo recall at 114mph, to which I ask "Behind what model truck??"
This boat rolled out of the factory with twin 900SC and Mercury #6 drives. In 2004 that was big factory power, and your only other performance option was tipple 700SC's in this boat. Tripp's are cool but typically slower than twins on inboards. Both designs drank fuel faster than my buddies chugs beers. And requires 1000amps of power just to hear the radio..
So taking what we learned from the OG 21' PPE boat, doubled it, and added some upgraded driveline parts. Now we should have a 100mph+ top end, 3-4mpg overall economy, and ability to sneak up on those unsuspecting Lambo owners who will say, "that can't be fast cause it's a Baja with diesels..."
Why else would you scap these >>
