The link to EFI forum above is busted so I could not read their response. I really haven't followed along on this subject so the Bully Dog and Power Puck are plug in boxes I assume what is PPE doing or going to do? Whats the H&S tuner do? I have to believe some one will eventually hack it.

Maybe a Powerloader VI ? :rofl:

The Bullydog and H&S both reprogram the ECM like it has worked for years..

The problem is, the function to READ the ECM through the OBD port just isn't there.

They both plug into the obd on the truck, however, stock tunes and modified tunes are already loaded into the devices..is my understanding. I sometimes wonder if possibly the "unlock code" is what actually tells the device what OS to put into the truck...

Same spot.. It's a all in one unit. Tune/Monitor.

A OBD part plugs into the port, then a HDMI cable runs from that to the actual monitor.

Because the ECMs were made to no be able to read the calibration through the OBD II port if a company hacks in and reads the OS a different way they leave themselves open to a lawsuit from GM for stealing their "intellectual property".

I bet a year from now you won't be saying this.
I would bet money that is still true a year from now. The only way EFILive would even consider doing anything with the LML is if GM does something to open up the ECM so it can be read out through the OBD II port. I don't see that happening, and even if it did, that still isn't a guarantee that EFILive will support them.

GM I assume can read it. If im reading these post correct data can be loaded in but not abstracted. Or only partial data can be removed? It's a bit confusing as H and S and bully dog seem to be communicating some what with the ecm . Sorry im just confused and look stupid but I don't care.

They don't have to read it. They have the calibrations in house written by their engineers that have each revision saved..So, flashing is all that matters to them.

They can't stop the Diagnostics mode of the OBDII communications as it's required by law I believe. But, that mode doesn't say anything about pulling data from the flash chip.

They'll figure out a work-around eventually...It didn't sound like it was dropped from their to-do list. The fact that they are in NZ helps them out too....
They pretty much have given up. They have posted several times that they check when a new calibration comes out to see if GM has unlocked the ECM, but they have said in no uncertain terms that they aren't going to do anything unless it is possible to read out via the diagnostic port. I'm not saying for sure that EFILive will never support the LML, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Ross and Paul stay plenty busy just keeping up with what they support now..

Exactly, and now that the Cummins is in full progress.. I don't see it ever changing.

Also, you have to stop and think about future Duramax models. Do you think GM will get away from the EDC17 ECM like is in the LML? I doubt it. We are probably screwed for custom tuning for years to come.

Ok just trying to understand this and I'm sure others are interested in this also but are perhaps to timid to ask those that know more than I do as so not to look foolish. Myself all through threw out the years have made such a fool out of myself on these BB that it doesn't bother me! :D

So it can be flashed but yet it can not be monitored or logged and then make changes to the calibration and re-flash. So basically if you get your hands on a stock calibration you make changes flash the ECM hope for the best repeat repeat and hope you get something worth while. Is that the sticky part or the issue in simple terms and EFI isn't going to invest the time and effort into finding the door to open and get inside? Thats what it sounds like to me.

I wonder if there is other companies out there working on it although. If like it's said if this is the way GM is going no doubt that they wont change but make it even harder down the road. I have to assume someone is going to want to be able to tune the newest engines.

I wonder about HP Tuners they gave up at the LLY? Not popular but I wonder if TTS is exploring it also. Or perhaps it seems like all the big power is made with earlier models so whats the point?
