This means nothing. Ford has by far the strongest stock tranny, but probably the weakest after they are built. built tranny to built tranny the dodge is far superior to the allison.

To the best of my knowledge, there has been only one truck that has run both trans, and it has hurt both.

The only reasons I can see to run the Dodge so far is weight reduction and fewer gears for drag racing purposes. But I'll admit I'm only 800rwhp or so with no clutch pak or hard part failures in the Allison.

The dream trans would have a 3-sp:

1) 1.65
2) 1.00
3) 0.70

Or there abouts.

This give mid 9 second top speeds with factory gears, and still keeps the trucks in the max power area.

Pat, there are a few up our way running the duraflite, but i was more referring to the dodges that are running 800+. heavier trucks, typically more torque and far less issues. I really do hope that the ideas Mike has come up with work. NADP has 6 or 7 10 second trucks out of their shop, so i get to see regularly the Allison vs. Dodge tranny debate.

Anyone remember what the ZF6 ratios are?

Naw, Kat has made the same joke herself. She has run 12's in a stock manual trans Camaro, and 11's in a stock manual trans Vette. She can out-shift 90% of the guys.

Once again, it's a matter of pragmatism.

If you are going to put a "race only" trans in, you have a racecar. If you have a racecar, there are better transmissions you can run than late-automotive-style automatics. Nothing in the Ford, GM, or Dodge modern catalog is useful for max effort racecars.

Yeah, 2-sp and 3-sp auto's, or 4-speed manuals are going to be better choices. But if I wanted a pure racecar, I'll admit it wouldn't be a 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup truck. I can go a bunch faster, a bunch cheaper, a bunch safer, with something that ain't starting out as a HD tow-truck.

If you can't tow heavy, get good economy, and haul ass at the same time, exactly what are you doing? Answer? Getting creamed by 7 second race trucks.

I agree with your disagree, agreed? :D

A few have run 12's with a stock lbz Allison, but I don't recommend it. Nobody I know have has run a 12 with a stock Dodge or Ford trans.
i ran 12s in 04 with a stock ferd tranny in my reg can 6.0 leaker..superchip tuner stacked with a ts instigator 165 and a .55 naws nozzle.every one has a claim to fame first 12 sec pass i ever heard of from a 6.0

How does that mean nothing? If a stock tranny can't handle barely above stock TQ and HP why would I ever want to dump money in it? And I have seen some stock Ford trannys hold some big power, but I have no experience with the modded Ford trannys.

I disagree with everything here.

there is nothing to prove otherwise. The ford trannies hold more power stock than the other two, and up to this point no one can make an allison live below mid 10's. numerous dodge trannies below mid 10's. the proof is at the track and up to this point the allison's haven't performed.
