Well Friday night I spent getting my truck ready for Saturday nhrda, then took care of sick momma and baby girl Sunday. Yesterday and today after work I put in some
and finished her up. Need to weld a little brace to the cold pipe but I wound up putting plumbers tape back on (tighter and cleaner than before) and adjusted the cold pipe where it bolts to the alt bracket to sit correctly. If this blows out, he knows it's time to upgrade. Welding it just doesn't seem like a good idea the more I look at it.

Should be dropping the engine in Thursday or Friday

Engine for sure going in tomorrow.

Today changed Trans lines out, changed powersteering lines out, replaced the shift shaft seal on the Trans and added a brace to the cold pipe. She's ready to go back home!

She's in. Initial fire up tomorrow. If that goes well, I'll get her buttoned up by the end of the weekend

I remember a day not too far distant when the 7.3 was the fastest of my vehicles. Thank God those days are over.

i thought about smacking you when you bought it...... then i came back to reality and realized that would be a very stupid thing to do :roflmao::roflmao:

Well since last week, this engine has been a headache. Partly my fault, partly the machine shops fault. Dropped the engine in last thursday and saturday by 12:00 i had hooked up enough to run, rained friday or i would have had it running then. soon as it fired, oil all over the place....

it was coming from the back driverside of the engine. looked like the oil galley threaded plug was leaking but it was tight.... then it dawned on me. i never remember seeing the freeze plugs in the oil galleys but didnt check as i specifcally told the machine shop to put ALL the plugs in after cleaning the block for the last time. sure enough, pulled the engine and mid plate and the rear two driver side plugs were not there but a brand new passenger side plug was in.......oy.

put it all back together and dropped it back in and fired back up by 7:00 that same night but oil pressure was only 5-10. still not right!!! thats when josh pointed out the same machine shop forgot to install the front plug in the oil galley under the oil pump on his engine a while back. We pulled the turbo oil feed just to verify the gauge didnt die and it certainly wasnt 40+ psi coming out of it but oil was for sure getting around the engine. Damn it!

since sunday was momma's first mothers day, there was no work done to her. But monday i pull the front cover, pulled the reluctor wheel forward and unbolt the oil pump, leaned it back and sure enough, no plug. had enough room in there to slide a plug in and press it in with a pry bar and some creative leverage to keep from hurting the pump or aluminum pan. got it all back together but had dead batteries so no starting.

yesterday Levi brought me 2 new batteries since his wont hold a charge for crap and we fired it off. 60psi right away and no leaks via oil or fuel.

I had gone against my own rule of never trusting the machine shop for getting it all right and missed the plugs so let this be something for those of you lookin or are building the engines yourself. make sure this plugs are in there. it will give you quite the headache and if you dont use much assembly lube or good assembly lube while oiling up other parts as well as possible when assembling, you can hurt the bottom end very quickly from lack of oil.

we also swapped in a stock ECM yesterday and i pulled the tune to send to steve to have the VATS turned off as well as the egr/intake heater and adjsut a few things for the 60% overs. Now to get the front clip back in and see where i can find coolant leaks

It happens, live and learn and move on. Good luck with the rest of it! Dad used to keep a freeze plug kit in his van:roflmao:

You trusted a machine shop that the block was clean? Brave man right there.

no, i had asked to have the block cleaned and add the freeze plugs back in. it was saran wrapped up and clean as a whistle when i tore it off at the house. it got a quick cleaning as well from me just before assembly, just never paid attention to the freeze plugs that never got installed though. :thumb:

It was clean, the oil galley plugs were removed and/or gone, right.?

yes sir but did not pay attention to the fact the plug were not there when i gave it a quick rinse down/blow out

like i say guys, im not putting all the blame on the machine shop and i clearly dont have an issue putting up my mistakes so the next person doesnt run into them. rookie mistake? you can call it that but asking for one thing after the whole block checked out right in spec of what i wanted didnt make me think twice about the plugs. That wasnt the case, this wont be the last engine i build and you can bet it stands firm on my check list to check. you wont see other shops post up there screw ups but they sure as hell happen. seen enough put stock pistons in backwards, missed the same plugs, and so on. its called sucking up your pride, working with the customer on issues and make it all right with them and the engine.

at this point, oil pressure is staying good but ill see where it gets to when warm after the cooling system goes in. if i still dont like the pressure, ill be pulling the oil filter and seeing if anything inside bearing wise was damaged. if so, out she comes and ill be fixing it. i dont believe that will be the case its in the back of my mind it may have to happen

Was wanting to go with a 17x9 with a +12 offset, I hate cleaning these cranks, that and they rub the a arm and sway bar, not as bad with the straight centerlink but still looks gay with that big bumper and skinny wheels.
