Quick update to this thread.

Towed the new race truck shell from Vegas back to Phoenix few weeks ago. Trailer and truck was around 7500-8000lbs.

Outside air temps were between 108-114*

Max temps I saw maintaining 65mph.

217* fuel temp, ECM pulled fuel pressure back to 164-170MPA
Trans was normal 190-210*
ECT max of 227*

Now, for oil...

Saw a max of 272* I have no other coolers for engine oil than factory.

At 2800rpm pulling a hill in 4th gear oil pressure was 32psi at said temperature.
Spec is 14psi idle and 42psi at 1800. :eek::eek:
Monitored via CTS with probe in oil filter assembly.

My tow tune is a very mild 2050Us tune with turbo brake, nothing stupid.
This is the 3rd truck I have watched oil temp while towing and it's not very nice. A cooler will be added to it soon, along with a fuel cooler. ;)

Some good info. I'm right there behind you. As soon as I got to phoenix my temps scared me I will be adding oil cooler as well as better fuel and trans coolers.

Last time I saw temps that high.. Was right after I rebuild the lbz engine.. I buried the needle at 260° on an electric short sweep guage.. Shortly after that ECT start climbing.. Stopped at 245°. At the top of the 9% 3 mile grade there was a parking lot.. Which I quickly pulled into. Put in park held engine rpms at ~2000 for ~5 minutes before oil temp guage started coming down.. ECT cooled off in roughly 3 minutes... No aux oil cooler of any type... I was 25,000lb gross as well

Hit 260° with current lmm.. But fan is dying and new goes on this weekend

Speaking of oil cooling... Has anyone talked to Michael (Super Diesel)? I knew he was going through some ugly crap with his family IIRC, just wondering if he's doing alright?

Any more updates on external oil coolers? Looking to add one of these to my truck in the springtime.

Latest on Oil coolers is this. You can buy cores from vibrant performance and custom make what you need. The biggest thing now is Mocal now has a sandwich adapter specifically for the duramax with -12 fittings thanks to another member here.

Mishimoto is probably the best option though not the cheapest

I would say far from the best option, when you can get Bar&Plate cores and can build your own end tanks. Along with the adapter built by BAT that is cast to have the bigger opening thus more flow along with the larger options for inlets and outlets, and retains the correct filter housing adapter. Seems like a win win. Its more expensive but quality parts

SP2CT is the part for us.

Yeah that cooler will work nice, has conflicting information on if its -10 or -12. I think the best thing is the new sandwich adapter from Mocal. Lots of guys seemed to be modifying other brands and now they can just bolt on and go for a reasonable price. I like building my own coolers so I adapt the mounting how I want. I am for sure using the 12x12 and a big fan like you are talking on mine for the Kodiak.
