Torque specs

I'm looking for some help with torque specs guys. Off the top of my head, I need front balancer bolt, flexplate bolts, and converter bolts. All factory stuff, no ARP's...

Also, are you guys using Loc-Tite on any/all of these? If yes, which is preferred, blue or red?

And lastly, how many of you guys are not actually torquing them to spec, but just getting them as tight as you have the means to do?

The only thing Im sure of is locktite goes on the converter bolts. Don't know if blue or red is recommended, for some reason I put red on mine.

I usually use a drop of blue on LS converter bolts, balancer bolt, and flexplate bolts. Wasn't sure if the increased vibration & tq of the Diesel engine warranted something else. Thought I should ask the experts here. You've all done this before, I have not. The last thing I want is a converter bolt coming loose in a week....

Blue Locktight will be fine on any of the bolts. If you what the bolts/nuts to NEVER come out again in your life time - use the Red stuff. Red needs some type of heat to remove the part once its been set; where as the Blue you can break free with a breaker bar or impact.

on the balancer bolt - put a drop or 2 of light oil between the bolt and the washer; to ease it in the tightening process. you will need to hold the flywheel some how from turning over while tightening, also.

I have a noob break-in question for you guys.

Which tune should I run during the break-in of this engine? I have Steve's DSP5. Stock, heavy tow/low EGT, light tow, +100, and +150. I was thinking either stock, or heavy tow/low EGT. What do you experts recommend?

There are a million opinions on break in out there.

Personally, I would run the light tow tune at first. Get a heat cycle on it running up and down the road, using moderate acceleration.
While it cools off, load up either the heavy tow tune and a trailer, or the +100 tune. Take it out, and be pretty aggressive with the power. Charge up some hills, vary your speed and RPM. Let it cool back off. Then one more hard run, and you're golden. Change the oil after 500-1000 miles, and that's it.

But, that's just how I would do it (and how I will do my motor when it goes back together). There are other ways. IMO it is hard to hurt a duramax, so however you break it in will probably be fine. I like to be aggressive to ensure the rings seat and any issues are discovered quickly.
