Okay. What other bolts cannot be reused? Need to get the order placed ASAP.

Balancer bolt is "supposed" to be replaced; but ive reused them tons of times with no problems.

Off the top of my head, the only other bolts I can think of that need to be replaced are the torque converter bolts. Just go to the dealer and ask for torque converter bolts for a 4L60. They work perfectly and I think are a little cheaper than the Allison bolts.

I bet a ton of people reuse the flexplate and tq converter bolts too. I know I've reused them all on a bunch of LS gassers over the years, with never a problem. Maybe I just got lucky...

A minute or so of heating each bolt with a hand held propane torch, and the IR removed those 8 bolts easily. :D

You guys had me nervous!

So yesterday, the wife gave me a hand installing a set of Merchant trans cooler line repair hoses. Then she asks me, "Why don't we just send that trans off to Mike L and get it built? Since the truck is already down, and it's halfway out."

I love that woman! :D

Lol, well for now I'm just gonna deal with the engine. The trans is working just fine, and I'm quite happy with the performance I get with Steve's tuning.

But I told her that if the trans ever lets go, it will be sent to Mike L, and then Steve will be called on for maybe a better turbo & supporting parts & tuning. The seed has been planted...

So is the dealer taking the entire failed motor back? Will you ever find out what exactly went wrong?

And dang, I might need to get one of those impact guns. I had a heck of a time getting the flywheel bolts out with a breaker bar.

Yeah, the core charge was $3500, so it's going back to them. If I had a lot of spare time I would tear it down, but in the end it doesn't matter much to me. I'm positive it swelled some pistons, and with the low oil pressure & knocking, I know there is crank & bearing damage. I don't know how easily these engines warp/crack the heads, so no idea there.
