Yeah , I've done a lot of work on these in the chassis, but this is my first time removing a Duramax engine.

What size Allen bolt is on this flexplate? I don't have one this big.

LOL you better have a damn good allen socket and a good way to lock the ring gear. those SOB's are tight. I ended up cutting a short section of allen wrench off and using it in a 6 point socket I want to say it's 14MM, I made a alluminium piece that bolted to the bell hosuing bolt hole and engaged the ring gear and held it tight. worked really well. it takes a long handle ratchet and a cheater pipe to break them loose.

I have a set of c grade gaskets new. Also by chance you didn't lose an injector cup did you? I guess the engine is out now.

I have this. I also have a piece of strap steel bent up to bolt one end to the flexplate, other end to the block. Don't think I'll need it though, the IR is a beast.

It's out & a Goodwrench longblock will be here next week. This thing is knocking, and I don't feel like messing around with it. I haven't had the best experiences at machine shops with turnaround time. I need the truck back on the road ASAP, and definately don't want to be reinstalling it outside during a Wyoming winter...

I may never be done with it!! It's nice not needing an air compressor & air hose. I'm really wanting to buy the 3/8" drive IR, they share the same battery, and I already have 3 of them.

Believe it or not I bought my 1/2 drive Allen socket from harbor freight when I did my lb7. It worked great.

Btw if that gun breaks those flywheel bolts loose I may just have to buy one haha. Those are stupid tight.

Was it 14mm as posted earlier? Wanna send me the socket? :)

Actually, if you can just verify the size that would be super. I can pick one up locally tomorrow. :)

I would be very surprised if that impact wrench is able to loosen the flywheel bolts.

Ive had trucks that required a 5' cheater pipe and my weight (200lbs) standing on the end of the cheater pipe to break the flywheel bolts loose....

That impact won't take those flywheel bolts out. They're tight!

Use a good breaker bar too.. I have broken a few and its not pretty. Even a 1/2" snap-on bar met its fate that way.
