Id pull the glow plugs and pressurize it overnight and then get someone to crank it while you watch. We found a very slightly cracked head that way last year.

Can see little bit a white smoke on started up system is manually pressurized to 19-20# vis shop air. .. During daylight its all black

Got to make it first....

It sucks when the smart guys don't know... And answer tear it apart.. Find out.. Let us know.

Got the coolant system pressurized and the ball valve throttled to keep it at 18-19#. Hopefully it fills something or leaves a trail that I can find the leak in the AM

When i had a bent rod, my lly would smoke like that at idle and you could see the haze in the lights while running 65ish. It was not loosing coolant or making oil.

By chance, did you use ARP studs in the head? If so, did you torque, wait overnight and retorque? (I know it was a quick rebuild as you were on the road.)

Hopefully the pressurized coolant system points you to something simple.

All rods where checked and where +/-.001" of 6.417"
I'm still on stock transmission HP wise for LMM coming up on 200,000 miles I've put on it..
Used LML head bolts. Truck didn't used coolant untill I loaded a high sail load and buck a 15-20mph headwind.. Roughly 1700 miles after assembly and install in Colorado
One thing I noticed was my mechanical oil pressure got higher the more coolant it used... Normally it was 65-70#@2000-2100 with temps at 200-210° by the time I got home I was seeing almost 90# with same temps and RPM..
Knowing water thickens oil... One could say it's going in the oil but how...

Jeezus Adam are you sure you didn't accidentally put a 6 liter Ford in there?

I know the cost is getting to you but I wouldn't have reused the head bolts. They are reasonably priced for new LML ones considering the cost of tearing it all down again for a stretched bolt causing a head gasket leak again. Not saying that's what it is, but, you know.....

Well, My 2 cents.

You either have a bad head gasket, (water jacket -> Oil) or a crack in the block. Most likely a cylinder wall crack.

Do not remember if the Duramax is an oil/water cooled turbo charger unit. If it is water cooled, is it possible that the charger core could be cracked between the water jacket and the oil drain? This would explain loosing water to a lower pressure oil.

Once you hooked up the SAIL, how much did your EGT's and oil temps rise? Pulling my camper with the LLY, oil temp was running about 230, EGT about 1100, and water temp in the 195 range. Out in west Texas running I10 with the LBZ pulling the same camper water temps go up to 230 before I decided it was time to slow down and let the radiator catch up. Then the water temp dropped back to 200-210 (hills caused water temp to rise).

used brand new LML head bolts every time the heads been off.

Jon I hope not... It's possible I didn't get luck with the block breaking a crankshaft in it..
One could speculate partially cracked then finished with this load

Jlawless
EGTs picked up 150° to ~850° and oil temp picked up 10° in 50° ambient ECT was 190°
Rolling empty with trailer I'm 700° egt and 200°eot ECT is 190°
Egt/EOT are monitoring by auto meter digital guage as ECT is via V2 BBX live scanning
Turbo is brandew Garrett GT4088R

Well coolant been pressurized for some 12 hours now.. Going to pull water pump and glowplugs...

Found the expansion tank had been pumped dry. Last night.. Little leak on heater core supply connection and the return line junction at the lower radiator hose connection.. Maybe a quart of fluid on the ground between the two... Not enough for over a gallon that was in the expansion tank to disappear when its 30° out.

Glow plugs pulled all dry, cranked nothing out the holes.

Pulled water pump.. Nice and tight, no noise when spun.. Weep holes are clear.
Guess it's good time for lunch..

Only guys I know, local to me persay, that can pressure test block is Wagler Competition which is ~3 hours away.. When I talked to randle, he highly doubted I cracked a head given power in running..

I haven't drained oil yet.. Did pull plug to see if any was at the bottom, straight oil came out... need to get rid of some oil so I have room for more..... If it did fill there would be close to 4 gallons and I don't have room right now for it all
