Interesting.

Not sure if I understand this right:

The engine block you want to put in is missing holes in the front of the block?

Is it just missing the holes, or is the block missing the "bosses" too?

It's missing the bosses and some huge ears off timing plate .

The two mount make up for a front motor plate together on very front of block .

View attachment 4276 old block , see the bosses and big ear for mount bolt .

View attachment 4277 nothing even there at all , no ears or bosses ...... nada

On the other side it's even worse , there is huge bosses cast into the block , big stand offs , not there either .

Gotta be a special block for medium duty is my guess .

Feeling like a nuke just went off on my project .

Great looking new motor though .... hahahah

Oh man, does that blow. :(

This just ain't your year John.

Here's the thing, how common are Kodiak cores?

Perhaps you might be best off making an adapter out of steel to mount the engine.

The project just got extremely difficult .

View attachment 4278 these bosses and ear arent there either .

View attachment 4279 this is where the mount would be , no ear or bosses .

Kinda stumped , and a little discouraged at this point , unless some genius's have a solution for me .....

anybody hahahahahahah

All I can do is laugh at this point Pat .

What an oversight , never had the block together till recently and just didnt notice .

Exactly what I was thinking , but it is such a serious mounting system on the original motor .

Very strong the way they did it . And reinforces the block for strength for the mounts up front . Makes it a front motor plate , worried about making mounts far back and bringing forward and the blocks strength to have them hanging from it like that without the ears for reinforced strength .

Not Good !! Ever feel shot in the foot by a howitzer .

Damn Im sorry Johnny that is unreal.:(

Unreal !! is saying it mildly .

Now I just need some help from all you guru's to come with a solution .

Pat , Newly , Simon and others are right . Where am I going to even find a block like this . Going to have to make something .

Real problem is it's in my driveway .

Talked to Joe at PPE yesterday and the only thing we could think of is to take it to the shop for a while and re engineer the mount like he did for the 70 chevy truck ...... what a pain that will be ... and he didnt seem to big on the idea either .

moving truck , parts , motor , and if he would even have it there .

Im pretty good , but not sure if Im good enough to do this fabbing .

John, for the "ears":

One idea: Using a magnetic drill or a large drill press, drill and tap 2 large bolt holes where the pad should be. Make another ear out of mild steel. Bolt it to the block in the original location. Make sure you seal threads.

Perhaps even triangulate the block against a 3rd unused hole.

This should be at least as strong as a factory pickup mount.

If Jeff has that block, I think you should consider it Johnny.

What a pain in the ass labor would be, but at least you are very capable of doing it yourself, and hadnt paid someone the big $$$ to put it together.

Dont want the motor falling out taking it off any sweet jumps in Glamis :D

Im not screwing around I already have some steel out cutting it up to plate the side of the block .

Here is maybe a couple better pics .

View attachment 4280 sheet steel already cutting now .

View attachment 4281 same spot as below and nada on the mounts .

View attachment 4282 what is needed and pretty beefy on old block .

On other side there isnt any bolt holes like these pics .

Im going to figure it out though . Somehow

I think I can do it and use stock mounts .

I need 2 pieces of sheet steal 1/2 inch think , about 5" x 8" . Then have 1/2 machined off back of mounts .

Then bolt the 1/2 plate to existing hole on block and mock up on other motor .

The half inch taken off mount should allow to bolt mount to ear mount on old motor and mark the hole perfect on plate where it sits .

Then transfer to new motor and do some more work to catch the ear mount with something off plate next .

There is enough room to get a threaded bung or a nut between plate and block .

There are 4 bolt holes lower on both sides of block . Im going to make another plate to sit here on both side . weld together , something between them and hit the ear mount with it . This ear mount is important to box in the plate for strength .

Machining 1/2 off the mounts . You get back the thickness of the plate .

Plenty of meat and clearance to machine down surface on mounts .

Over on DP Tony B said he has short blocks with mounting ears commercial .

So at least I know they exist . Only if I have to and cant figure it out .

Fabbing my new motor is still in my path .

I think I can do it . Crap I just built this motor .

Now im suppose to buy a short block .
