Ya i understand either way im gonna be spendin money, the MPI twins are like 8k from what i understand for the dmax.

MPI Twins will be less then 5 gand at your door. Them and Robs tuning, a tranny, and maybe even hone your injectors for like $250 and you will smoke this dude.
Your looking at 8 grand there and your still in your Duramax, seems like easy question to me:rolleyes::)

Dude if your looking for turnkey performance that truck is not the way to go. They have been hopping up cummins for how many years now, and we have been playing with the Duramax for how long, 8 yrs. To me it is more impressive to make big power with a Duramax that takes some ingenuity and finesse. Than to be able to stack 2-3 boxes, exhaust, intake, turbo, etc. The cummins is a good motor, and as I hate it say is built to take more from the factory, but it still has its flaws. Just because it will hold 800 or so hp from the factory doesn't mean sh*t when that injector tip cracks and burns up a piston. Or in some case, breaks off and fubars the head and piston.

Thats just my .02 on the matter. In the end it is your life and your decisions. Who are we to tell you not to spend money. But as it has been said on this forum and many others you are still going to have to "pay to play" no matter what your driving.

first off they are both nice trucks and the cummings is a good motor but the rest of the truck is cheap remember it is a dodge. id keep what you have and spend your money there like what was already said with that kind of power your gonna have issues sooner than later but bottom line its your money put it into something promising or a dodge your choice.

IMO -

Be extra wary of buying someone else's hot rod project. Except, if they build lots of them, and need more room. Those guys are the ones who get bored when after they complete it and need another challenge.

But the typical hotrod street vehicle for sale has become a serious PITA for the owner one way or another. Shortly after purchase you will find out why they decided to get rid of it.

Idk, my brother is a few test, like one or two away from being an ASE master Mechanic. Everyday he comes home from work bitching about something wrong with dodge, any vehicle. just dont seem to be a good product

x2!!! excellent post Mitch, couldnt have said it better myself

Not lookin for anyones approval just lookin for a second opinion....Im not gonna go drop a bunch of cash on another truck before knowing what im gettin into. I dont have much experience with the cummins and im sure some people on here have so they would know better than me if its a smart move.

After thinkin about it some more I dont think ill do it. Theres not many duramaxes in town and I like doin somethin different... Plus it looks like I can have a faster truck for the same amount of money.

I personally dont have anything against dodges. That in mind I think your logic is seriously flawed. Your going to get rid of your truck AND 5-7k in cash for a dodge because your afraid your duramax is going to blow up? You know whats been done to your truck, you have no idea whats been done to that dodge. They break OFTEN so I dont see how this would be beneficial? Like everyone else has said take that 7k and build a dmax motor.

Edit: looks like you found your marbles right before I made this post :D

As far as the Dodge thing goes (excluding the hotrod issue), I wouldn't can the idea simply because it was a Dodge. I might even get CR Cummins to experiment with sometime in the future.

A buddy of mine has an 05 CR and with a 100% stock bottom end with 625 ARP Head Studs and Valve Springs and stock heads hes at 1000-1100hp. This past weekend he dynoed 948 while making less than half of his peak boost. But he's cracked numerous injectors, broken MANY transmissions, and has gone through quite a few turbos. Right now he's running a huge set of Industrial Injection Twins. I don't know how his engine stays together but it does none the less.

Im still thinkin on it because if i get a cummins in the future id do basically what this guy has done. Not too mention the fact that he has had nooo problems with it and its never been in the shop. And hes willing to work out a trade. Im still gonna meet up and take a look at the truck.

Thats exactly why i was lookin at gettin acummins....I mean they go through alot of different other parts but the whole motor doesnt usually blow and the "little" stuff breaks. Do you think that motor safe at 691 hp with just a smarty and a modded cp3? Because it seems like it could last a while until I have the money to get headwork done and studs and a few other things.

I'm sure you'd be fine but like I said Dodges go through lots of transmissions... Theres no debate that a CR engine in stock form can in most cases handle several hundred more hp compared to a Duramax engine in stock form

True. I know the cummins isnt invinceable or anything but I dont think it'll let go anytime soon. And ill be saving for motor work. Nothings decided yet but its a possibility. Its a good opportunity on a fast truck so I dont wanna pass it up without thinkin it through

That is SOFACKINGBADS truck, it is a nice truck, but you said, you would be savein for the motor problems anyway? But you are giveing him 5-7K ontop of your truck? That would be 5-7K towards your D-Max. If you think parts are expensive on D-max's, wait tell your first IP goes out. Our 98 loved IP, and LP's and injectors, and tranny's and rearends, and front hubs, and most of the dash was held on by silicone, and/or ductape. It's your money dude, and Dodge has come along way since 98, but we will never own another one. I love the Cummins don't get me wrong that is why I am puttin a 12V in my 88.

I would be askin myself why he put all that money into it, and now wants to get rid of it and take your truck.
