I have never seen one go into limp mode, just throw a code and run like sh*t

um yeah, they run like shit because its in limp mode!!! ;)

Just because you can rev it over 2000rpm doesnt mean its "not in limp mode". When the trans limps, it doesnt limit you to 2000rpm does it???

There are about 5 different limp modes. Only one of them gives you the classic/textbook "2000rpm rev limit", and thats the limp mode that it defaults to when you have a low rail pressure condition. We arent dealing with a low rail pressure condition here, so thats why its not in "2000rpm rev limit limp mode"...its in "shut off half the injectors on the offending bus" limp mode.

if you are getting codes for 'injector control circuit', or anything like that, yes it is harness.

Personally, my opinion is 75% on bad injector, 20% on harness problem, 5% on other serious mechanical internal problem...

lol Whatever you want to call it Ben. I said in an earlier post that when it happens it shuts off a group of injectors. That is why it runs like shit cause only 6 cylinders are firing.
If this is technically a limp mode then you are right. I have always refered to limp mode as when it reduces power or limits rpm.

i dont know why people keep suggesting the harness from gm. that harness is for number 7 and number 2. his problem is with number 5. that harness wont do anything for number 5. im with ben on it being a bad injector. i would do like chevy said and swap it to number 7 and see if the balance rate follows.

Can't the harneses be put on any injector? There just the harness with pigtail wires

#7 and #2 are the ones that give the problems. the harness comes with brackets and pre cut wires that clip on to those brackets and are totally different. one is for 7 and the other is for 2.

4 cylinders

it does reduce power. Not only because its only running on 4 cylinders, but It also limits overall maximum allowable main rate, and shuts off 4 injectors...if thats not considered a type of "limp mode" I dont know what is? :)

it would sound like you were running full rail pressure if it was a harness issue. did you swap injectors yet?

There are two different kits for injector connectors. One for #2&7 and one that's a single connector for the other 6.

Yes I am naive does the look alright? It is basically clear with a slight yellow hint. I am going to swap 5 and 7 now to see if the issue follows the injector

There is also absolutely no smoke coming out of the exhaust. It also starts just fine but I can smell fuel

i am having same problem as you? i can hear it knock. it knocks while going through the gears and when i give it throttle. no smoke. i can smell fuel. but all my injectors are within specs to. its been knocking for about a year. and i am clueless. it has a little bit of smoke coming out oil fill tube. not a lot at all. i am not sure if it is normal or not to have a very small amount.
