As posted by Ross on our forum it's Update time.

We have successfully implemented re-flashing in to our version 8 development software for the 5.9L. So at this stage all technical challenges have been completed, we have a few things left to tidy up before we would consider releasing this as a beta.

One of these issues is more an issue in the ECM itself. Anyone who has ever used the Tech Authority system to program a 5.9L will know you have to go through a VIN learn after the flash is complete. This is because there is IMHO a bug in the ECM's reflash code handler that dictates you need to do a full reflash of the ECM even though you tell it to only write to a small section. In doing so the ECM clears out some critical memory area that needs to be rewritten before the ECM will come back to life correctly.
It's not a big challenge to handle this properly and we will be testing some processes shortly.
Cool, glad it's progressing! Also interesting on the reflash "bug" as you say. Perhaps Dodge/Cummins never envisioned the possibility of a calibration-only flash?

To answer the question on the old (existing) V2's working with Cummins, we are going to allow an upgrade to those V2's that will allow them to work with the 2006+ ECM's (the CAN based ones), this will not be a free upgrade, but it will save you needing to buy a whole new unit. Upgrade pricing has not been set, we will be having discussions with our resellers on what they feel is fair for everyone.
AWESOME! Time to start putting the $$ aside. Will the upgrade include the new blue housing, cause that would be neat!

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure they said the blue housings were going to be for the older non CAN based CUMMINS tuners. It's a bummer too as I know some people with that vintage CUMMINS that would probably pay me to tune em.

The current FlashScan V2 can be upgraded for Cummins tuning for CAN based controllers via an internet based software/license update, so they won't need to be returned to EFILive at all. (Returning units will be avoided at all costs). We've gone down this path because of the feedback from our customers and resellers about NOT wanting 2 seperate units.

The new blue FlashScan's contain a board design change to allow for SCI communications. This will become the standard unit for all future sales.

You'll only get a blue housing if you purchase a new FlashScan (once they are in stock), and as an existing Duramax Customer you'll only need a blue FlashScan if you want to tune SCI Cummins.

I should also add; while it's our intent to offer SCI Cummins support, development has not yet commenced, so it is unadvisable to upgrade to a new blue FlashScan on that basis alone.

What year models will this cover?

Current FlashScan V2 - CAN based Cummins ECM's
CAN - 2006-2009 5.9L
CAN - 2007-2010 6.7L

New Blue FlashScan V2 - CAN based Cummins ECM's plus SCI based Cummins ECM's
CAN - 2006-2009 5.9L
CAN - 2007-2010 6.7L
SCI - 2003-2005 5.9L ** hardware has the capability, but development support is yet to commence.

Also please NOTE: the years supported cover global sales and production, NOT just North America. We are aware that the 5.9L wasn't sold in the US in 2009, but it was in other parts of the world.

good job Guys, and gals :D

This is awesome to hear, sounds like you are moving right along.

Every time I hear more about this I think of this post from like 2005....

No plans to do Dodge, to be honest I would not even know what ECM they use. Most gas Dodge ECM's are made by Motorola!.
There is handhelds for these already right?, it will only be a matter of time before someone does a PC editor for them.........or, soon as they might say.

Cheers,
Ross

To tune an 06+ on an existing FlashScan V2 you will need to purchase the Dodge Upgrade path and update your software.

To tune 03-05 you will need the new hardware. It is undecided as to how we will implement this. Experience tells us the V1 to V2 hardware upgrade and license transfer was difficult for customers, vendors and ourselves to manage; so it's a path we'd prefer not to travel.

We hope to finalise all things relating to pricing and hardware for the implementation of Cummins over the coming weeks. Once finalised we'll let you know.

Cheers

We don't know yet on the pre 2006 5.9L ECM, but we would assume they also suffer this problem. As the warning on the Tech Authority website states, it is only a problem on the 5.9L ECM.
We certainly are aiming to not have this happen with EFILive, we are pretty close to testing this theory on some ECM's.

Thats cool... I wish HP cared enough about diesels to keep up. Not having any type of DSP switch really set them back. And I don't think they are looking at Dodge diesel stuff at all? I had HP from tuning gas stuff or otherwise I wouldn't be using it.

I spent more time reading on your forums than HP's

Now can you tune multiple vehicles with one Flashscan? I'm used to Dodge stuff where it VIN locks when you load a tune.

Or is it you scan your factory tuning, load it on a computer, change parameters, and throw it back in the ECM? Then you can use the same V2 to do another Dodge, or a Duramax?

I know you need licenses; I have 2 Dodges I'd like to tune and looking for a Dmax. Would I need one V2 and three licenses or three V2s and three licenses for the 3 trucks (when it's released...)?
