Sounds exactly like what the GM Gasser guys were saying about the Duramax crowd in the early days....and for that matter, what some of the Dmax guys were saying about the tuning skills of others....oh wait, he still says that!

03-05 trucks have CAN available under hood. We have made some pigtails to bring CAN into the cab at the OBD2 port.
The problem is that reflashing those trucks needs to be on SCI - it can't be converted to CAN.

It's like when GM switched from VPW to CAN - CAN was available for a couple of years along with VPW, but ONLY VPW could handle the flashing.

great, so do the 01-05 duramax's... That doesnt mean anything/is of little importance though because you cant reflash the modules via it..............

EDIT: didnt see that Cindy already responded to this.

I wish you knew everything that you think you know :thumb:

But since you don't then I'll let you keep on thinking you do :)

If you've ever been to a cummins dealership or been around a commercial ISB, they can be flashed over that datalink. In a chrysler, I'm not positive.

Just an update for you all, we've recently taken possession of our new hardware prototypes that include SCI communications. Once we've tested the prototypes, the fun will start (development). Ross is really looking forward to the next few months, especially now he has released 3 (E37, E39, E78 all Gasser ECM's) of the 8-10 new controllers planned for this year.

Cheers

Here is a pic of our new hardware. It looks identical to the existing V2, however is blue in colour. Labels are still in the works.

I have more good news - the prototypes WORK and we signed off on the production run today.

Ross is spending all of next week in New Zealand working with Paul on software development.

No time frames for BETA or public release, but things are progressing

Cheers
Cindy

The blue one probably does cummins in addition to the GM vehicles.

Cindy: will us "black V2" guys be able to upgrade to a "blue V2" (mail it in or something)? Or will we have to buy a 2nd one?
They posted in the EFILive forum they hadn't decided what they were going to do.

How is the blue one different than the black one? Is that a cummins only box?
The internals are different. V2 was never designed to work on non GM vehicles, so we needed hardware changes to support the 03-05 Cummins that run on the SCI data bus.

To keep development costs down, (and ultimately sales price) we've used as much of our existing product and tooling as possible which is why the units very similar.

As Josh said, we haven't decided what the new hardware will do. (ie GM and Cummins or just Cummins)

That decision is yet to be finalised, however it is looking like we will probably have different hardware for each vehicle manufacturer.

Thats great. Can't wait to get it, although I'll probably let tuners melt a couple engines before I get mine tuned. I can't afford another build, thus why I better not do it myself:rofl:

Oh great another $800 gone. :O
Unfortuantely development costs money and production/parts costs money. If we have an upgrade path from V2 new hardware will be needed. If we keep the products seperate, new hardware will be needed. At the end of the day if you want to tune a Cummins with EFILive you will need new hardware - not because we want to sting your hip pocket, but because the current hardware isn't capable of doing so. It's your call on whether you purchase it or not - we are not forcing you to do so.

With the state of the US dollar at the moment, you should be hoping that the cost for hardware will ONLY be $800. FWIW, the USD worth around 30-40% less today than it was 2 years ago in NZ, and it's worth even less in Australia.

As posted by Ross on our forum it's Update time.

We have successfully implemented re-flashing in to our version 8 development software for the 5.9L. So at this stage all technical challenges have been completed, we have a few things left to tidy up before we would consider releasing this as a beta.

One of these issues is more an issue in the ECM itself. Anyone who has ever used the Tech Authority system to program a 5.9L will know you have to go through a VIN learn after the flash is complete. This is because there is IMHO a bug in the ECM's reflash code handler that dictates you need to do a full reflash of the ECM even though you tell it to only write to a small section. In doing so the ECM clears out some critical memory area that needs to be rewritten before the ECM will come back to life correctly.
It's not a big challenge to handle this properly and we will be testing some processes shortly.

To answer the question on the old (existing) V2's working with Cummins, we are going to allow an upgrade to those V2's that will allow them to work with the 2006+ ECM's (the CAN based ones), this will not be a free upgrade, but it will save you needing to buy a whole new unit. Upgrade pricing has not been set, we will be having discussions with our resellers on what they feel is fair for everyone.

I know everyone wants time frames for a release, I don't want to set any false hopes as we have a pretty busy schedule (including overseas travel) before the year is out and Paul (the main software guy) is recovering from a pretty serious back operation, however we are 100% focused to get 5.9L tuning out as a beta before the year is out.

Cheers,
Ross
