Started tear down today. Hood and fenders off, engine harness out and most of the stuff out of the way to start tearing down to the heads. Not bad for 4 hours of work

Any particular reason the pass side accessory bracket and breather/catch can can't be used with the lly stuff?

Hope to have the heads off and protrusion measured tomorrow to go get head gaskets

Why do want to keep it

Tear down complete. Cyl and Pistons look great! Little carbon build up on the outer edges of the Pistons but nothing major. Need to order a new protrusion gauge, mine ain't workin right. It's all over he place. Must have damaged it at some point. Heads look good and all the head studs came undone fairly evenly.

Also got most of the new harness swapped in and lly nsbu on.

Dumb question.. But shouldn't you be able to use a magnetic base dial indicator to check protrusion?

Wouldn't be too tough to fab up a bracket that would bolt the lly ficm to the lb7 accessory bracket. That's what I'd do.

That's probably what I'll do. Nothing a welder can't fix :D

Tried that with my other dial indicator. The readings change every time you move the base after 0ing to the block. I couldn't get a consistent reading and yes, I was measuring off the wrist pin side of the piston lol. It varied as much as .010. I think the mount was flexing or the base just couldn't keep a level spot. With the bridge, you are on two spots across the block and stays more consistent/level. Plus no arms to change height on you.

Putting her back together today. Stopped off at the dealer the other day and picked up some grade B lml head gaskets.

Today, friend of mine named Sebastian (true pollack, poor kid lmao) gave me a hand all day. We got the new/used valve covered cleaned up, swapped parts/bolts over from the old heads to the new lly heads. Dropped heads onto the block and torqued down the studs, rockers on, lash set, valve covers on, y bridge in, and fuel lines on. Not busting a lot of ass to get things done, just takin my time to clean things up and make sure things are right.

Hopefully get her fired up tomorrow but will be waiting on a few parts before I can fully call it done
