LLY: Coolant Change
Doesn't hurt to change it, but if it has Dexcool, stick with it, there's nothing wrong with Dex as long as you change it at recommended intervals and you don't mix it with anything else. And make sure you purge all the air out or you can have hot spots that can contribute to HG failure.- ALLY Fox

Long way to Ohio...
Took all the back roads over to Walnut Creek and Charm today, and I do mean BACK ROADS.... Not even sure Google maps knows about some of those roads. Had a pig fest at Der Dutchman. Lot of folks looking at my truck, trying to figure out why it isn't all rusted out. :confused: Gotta watch out... -

I grew up in Canfield, spent a lot of time around ELO. My ancestors were river rats and well riggers along the Ohio. GGfather was a riverboat captain & grandpa rigged wells around Marietta, Wheeling and New Cumberland. Crusty ol' boys! -

Pulled the 5th wheel from Independence Oregon to Marengo Ohio via Montana, Wyoming, Kentucky, Tennesee and several other side trips. So far about 5000 miles and only issues have been a broken windshield and 3 tires that developed uneven tread wear along the way. We're in Marengo for a week... -

Thanks for the responses, just don't want to have any issues out here in the wilds. There aren't many people, let alone shops in this neck of the woods and we've got a lot more miles to go over the next month plus. I do dump a bunch of DK in every tank, especially running pure D2. B-20 vs D2?
We are in Boulder Whyoming, pulled our 5th wheel over some pretty rugged but spectacular scenery. I noticed that since we're away from B-20 land, I'm getting a lot more black smoke and cold startup is a lot noisier. Also, low end power seems less but maybe that has something to do with 7,200'...- ALLY Fox

Diesel runaway carnage
I know it's a little too late but you can make a cheap temporary air shutoff using a manual RV black tank dump valve, just get some heavy Fernco fittings or whatever to adapt it into the intake tube if you have a diesel that might have some oil trapped in the intake. -

LLY Got hot
The dash gauge is notoriously inaccurate if that's what you were going by. Mine says 210 when actual ECT is 186*. Plus, towing at 75 is a strain on the LLY cooling system when OAT is approaching 90*, especially if you're running big tires.- ALLY Fox

LLY: U0106 engine code. GP control module
Fairly common for the GP control module to fail, I just replaced mine about 2 months ago after getting tired of seeing tha CEL light on all the time. I found an OEM Bosch one on ebay for $83 USD, works fine, no more light. Check the connections first, there is a lot of current flowing though...- ALLY Fox

Edge probes are prone to failure, as others have mentioned. I would get a good, dedicated EGT gauge like Autometer or Isspro and then you won't have to wonder whether your EGT reading is good or not. -

LLY: Prestone coolant flush
Are you reading temp with the dash gauge? It is notoriously inaccurate, best to read it with something that scans the OBD port. My gauge shows about ~200-205 but scan says 186F.- ALLY Fox
