I quit smoking years ago and went right back to dipping. I even tried to quit dipping a few years ago. My boss bought me a can and threw it at me within the first 5 hours of quitting.

I used a vinyl wedge on small pieces and fishing line on door trim then used a Stripe Stripper ($9 at O'Reillys) to get the majority of the tape residue and finished it off with Rain-X bug and tar remover to get the rest of the residue.
I tried a rain cap and even made a custom counter weight to avoid tapping. The hinge itself rattled and drove me nuts. I tried bushing the hinge with little luck but it could be done if your are more patient than I am.
I have a stack beanie now but I'm usually too lazy or forget to put it...
I swapped a 5 speed VB and internal harness into a 6 speed for Chum. It's a just a 5 speed at that point. I already had an NSBU and 5 speed TCM from Destroked. Too bad I didn't research enough to know my 09 Allison didn't have the TCS sensor in the bellhousing.
The factory boots are pretty tough. I had the cool-side factory Duramax boot in Chum near double size when I hit the dyno yesterday. We were tempted to get pics of it, but not that tempted.
