I will be running the Arias on my truck... how often are tear downs necessary?

Just do compression tests often, Its up to you on how much compression your willing to loose.

It has a lot to do with the line bore and cross hatching that is done, And how you break in the motor. Also the rings and how you set yours.

Actually, there is a lot to say about it! Thats a loaded question Nick:D

Jeff,Pat or JB would be a big help if you truly decide to go this rought;)

Pistons

I beat on mine pretty hard and pulled tham out at around 3k miles to check because the compresson was down. The rings were pretty bad but that is to be expected with that type of(hellfire) ring. Thay seal and hold pressure very well but are soft and wear quick. Cody N run his to 25k I believe and pulled it down to check and replaced his rings. The piston ringland held up good but the ring endgap oped up and the tapper face was worn down flat. I need to pull the built motor apart (still haven't been lazy) to see what it looks like this time. It doesn't have maybe 500 miles this time but a boat load of 1/4 mile passes. All that said I do like the pistons better than the Mahle that Matt used in his motor. I do believe they hold up better in a race motor. Jeff

are there more people running these now? I think these are still a stronger choice over the mahles. Just sucks you can't have a strong piston and a long lasting ring too

We got ours through Simon. So far they have been bullet proof. One thing I can point out that no one has said that these piston will require extra crankcase vents to handle the blowby.

How is that accomplished?

We ran individual lines from each valve cover to a vent tank and also added a vent to the oil cap to vent the front cover. Its been a learning experience and you will have to drain the vent tank of oil often if you are beating on it hard or else it will blow out the top breather and make a big mess.

These piston also have a distinct rattle to them when running that makes the motor much louder than stock pistons.

i dont have that issue, never have. I would double check the rings and clearances/block maching when you have time.

I would say there are issues if you have to do all that. Jeff's isn't like that at all. Just rattles alittle more when cold.

i have had no issue with rattle making the truck louder than it was stock or have not added any crankcase vents in my motor and i have had no issues with excess blow by. the motor has over 40,000 miles on it with zero issues. you might want to check it out with the issues you are seeing.

cody, how long have you been going with a set of rings. What did you use for cylinder wall to piston clearance?

arias PTW (piston to wall) is 8 thou
i had 30,000 mile on the set or rings when we pulled them. The reason why i pulled them was for the testing phase and sent them back to have the pistons inspected per Arias testing guidelines they gave me. The pistons were fine and the 2nd ring had a little wear and the pistons looked new. Arias sent them back put new rings on them and put the motor back together. im thinking the reason why i have herd of some ring wear issues because of nitrious use.

Arias pistons

If you have that much blowby your rings are not seated yet or theres something else wrong. Mine has zero blowby and only had very little until the rings seated. Your pistons has very little to do with ring seal. When they honed the block did they hone it with the hellfire ring in mind or just hone it? Just for the record my shortblock has been together since 09. I pulled the heads this year to replace some bent valves from a turbo letting go but the short has not been apart for a couple of years. Wiseco pistons is what i'd run. Too bad the block is not see through because the pistons are a work of art. Pics are from NGM diesel race engines facebook page. They developed these with Wiseco.
