What does it cost to build a World Record Breaker Motor?

Yes it does. I call all turbo setups with two turbos twins. There are three ways to do it that I know of, parallel, sequential, and compound.

Ok let's start over. Are the fraternal turbos on this non depreciating/No2 sprayed engine set up in a "compound configuration"?

Ball bearing turbos spool faster/harder (once it lights, they light quick) and spool rpm is reduced. They also last a lot longer and take more abuse (hot shut downs, over speeding) they are just all around better turbos. However the down side is the cost, almost double (some times more) what a journal bearing turbo does. But a ball bearing Garrett USUALLY lasts 2-3 longer then a journal bearing. The cost is negligible over the life of the turbo...

The life of the bearings or the turbo as a whole?

Usually when the journal bearings fail they will allow either the compressor or the turbine wheel (or both) to hit housing and cause damage to them, some times you get lucky and can just replace bearings, sometime not...

Ball bearings do too.

Ill tell ya one thing is that someone that has a 1000+ hp Dmax.....They stopped counting along time ago!

Dan, minutes is correct! I dont care who or what you have running 1000hp has a time limit! People that run 1000hp on the street:rofl: they dont reach 1000hp for more than a millisecond.

my last machining was was 3500 bucks
2500 for rods
1700 pistons
cam 500
heads 2500
2500 ppe cp3 dual
3000 for inj
2000 modded pump
7g for turbos

um actually these are just off the top of my head:mad: and im done counting cuz its allready pissing me off!

Dan said 100 bucks for custom stuff well i bet i have over 5g in custom stuff.

you dont just throw a 1000hp motor in! you OWN it

Ball bearings do too.

Never said they don't!

All it takes to kill a journal bearing charger is a loss of oil pressure for a split second and they are done! Ball bearing on the other hand has restrictors in them to LIMIT the amount of oil they can get (more for the engine) because they require such a small amount.

Yep I completely agree! I Never said this was a poor mans sport. If you want be at the top of the game in any motorsports it requires lots of money. The question is how far up the ladder do you want to be?:)

These built motors aren't cheap, they are ticking time bombs if you ask me! 35k is a crazy amount of money but at the end when you break it down like Dan did, you can see where it went.

All I know is when my motor decides to go (which it should of by now if you ask me) all I'm doing is Howard rods, Fingers pistons, key this and that, oh and bore it out atleast .070 over. A 4202r, dual cp3's, 100 injectors.

You're still tryin to kill the trans..... quit worrying about the motor :D

Dan the motors i'm talking about don't need a 25% correction factor to get to 2500 hp. It is true speed cost (unless you use a dragster) how deep are your pockets?

Thanks!

Maybe you need to remove your shoe's too????:D:confused:

Ok lets use your numbers as an example..... so you are saying a stock LB7 that makes 310 crank horsepower and makes about 245 RWHP??? That is just about what we see here at the shop (actually 248 rwhp) so I am good with your numbers...

Let do the math....

310/20%=62
310-62= 248 RWHP or a 20% loss.... or in your case a 21% loss...;)

This math even work with your LBZ numbers.....

BUT guess what happens when you quadruple (or even more) power output to the rear wheels? Drive train loss DOES NOT STAY AT 20%...

Yeah............it does..........a loss is static if you go through the same hard parts ( trans/transfer case, rear axle )

That's why most stock ratings are at the flywheel and when you properly dyno the stock truck it makes about 20% less HP/TQ because the loss is static.

Once you have the baseline then you know your true gains at the wheels, it's still only going to be 70HP/125TQ loss regardless of engine HP/TQ or the build.

My money is you would probably see a similar loss of 65-70HP and 125TQ even on your built motor..........physics is physics.........you can't inflate the numbers because you want to, math doesn't lie.

Put it on an engine dyno and get back to me.

"Ticking Time Bomb"

I'd rather take MY $35,000 and start fresh ! A trailer pulling Guinness Book Of World Records, record ,next to the guy with the longest finger nails isn't the purchase incentive I want to tell my buddies when their Jaws drop!

If you were so inclined to want the World Famous Motor wouldn't you want a second opinion to the health of this motor? I would

Not like you can take that Pallet it sits on for a ride around the block or even fire it up!

This isn't a UNOPENED BOX OF RODS here and WE ALL KNOW how that ended up! UG-A-LEE !

Damn you people spend alot of money, I bet if you give a cheap ass sled puller 16-18 grand, he can build you a 1000 horse motor. (We are only talkin minutes anyway). I wont give any names, but i know some people that have done it! It won't be a record breaker, but it seems as if the topic has shifted to just 1000 hp in general

That's what I'm saying! The funny thing is someone will buy this engine cause there r a lot of people that do have that cash in the mattress . They don't know any better nor have the resources and want to feed the ego.

Dan isnt doing anything any of you wouldn't try to do in this situation. Recoop funds, It says best reasonable offer. With that being said, if you're interested.. Shoot him an offer, all he can say is no.. and in that case you can just go and build your own. The motor is sick, no doubt about it. All these arguements are valid.. Is 35k a lot for a used rase motor, yes. When you break it down part by part the price gets up there for sure but at the end of the day PPE and dan are entitled to ask whatever they want for it...

As far as being a vender and having to "up hold higher standards" We're all on this site for the same reason. To learn from eachother and help eachother out with knowledge we've all learned along the way . I've been seeing way to much bull shit on this site lately.. to the point that i don't even like getting on it. Let's remain focused at the task on hand here. The knowledge of Duramax Diesels, not the study of estrogen levels among males in the diesel community :thumb:

Whatever you THINK it's going to cost, double that number. :D

It nickel and dimes you to death. The long block is only 1/2 the battle.

Cheapest 1000HP would be:

Rods, two huge CP3's, huge single, and buttloads of nitrous.

It would be a kamikaze motor.

To show up at Bonneville and go 197mph cost us about $100,000 all told, but costs were defrayed by sponsors like PPE, Garrett, Inglewood Trans, SoCal Diesel, etc.

Out of pocket was still over $60k. Tires and wheels were $8000 by the time we got there. The special rear axle was $5000. Special driveshaft $1000. Safety equipment $20k, etc.

Remember that you need to test, and some stuff just doesn't work as planned or fails, so you often end up buying several things twice, and need a backup plan.
