Dan isnt doing anything any of you wouldn't try to do in this situation. Recoop funds, It says best reasonable offer. With that being said, if you're interested.. Shoot him an offer, all he can say is no.. and in that case you can just go and build your own. The motor is sick, no doubt about it. All these arguements are valid.. Is 35k a lot for a used rase motor, yes. When you break it down part by part the price gets up there for sure but at the end of the day PPE and dan are entitled to ask whatever they want for it...

As far as being a vender and having to "up hold higher standards" We're all on this site for the same reason. To learn from eachother and help eachother out with knowledge we've all learned along the way . I've been seeing way to much bull shit on this site lately.. to the point that i don't even like getting on it. Let's remain focused at the task on hand here. The knowledge of Duramax Diesels, not the study of estrogen levels among males in the diesel community :thumb:

Your absolutely correct EXCEPT as far as the "higher standard" I don't feel it would be in his interest to come into this thread and insult a member being a vendor. Nothing positive will come of it, believe me. I have chosen to take the higher road ,for now.

Besides that I feel we have the right if we choose to discuss the price of a building such a beast of a motor and IF such a motor is worth the asking price and what are the alternatives if someone was in the market for one.

My opinion stands that $35K or BO for a used motor is IMO ,nuckin futs! Also not that it is Just USED but how it was USED also.

X2. If this topic was in a F/S thread, ya would be inappropriate but this is Mack's thread and HE asked OUR opinions. BTW if I was going to pay this OBO retail price, I'd be starting from scratch not someone's leftovers. If its gonna be a weakened motor (already established that 1000HP "is gonna last minutes") I want to be the one inflicting the damage. This is a common sense opinion thread nothing more. Don't take it personal.

03BadMaxxx for my curiosity what power level is your truck at for the asking price 0f $39K? Whole truck by the way.

Also not for nothing where is the documents showing that this "famous" $35k motor is at 1000 RWHP anyway or was it a toes and fingers calculation?

Twins are two babies who are carried during the same term. Have you never seen twins where one was a boy and the other was a girl? They are commonly called fraternal twins. They come from two separate eggs that are fertilized individually. Identical twins come from the same egg that splits.

Thanks for the biology lesson, guess I'm running fraternal twin turbos.:poke::D

Dan my question is why are you selling it? Also how much time does it have on it at WOT? I think trying to sell a slighty used race engine is akin to trying to sell a race truck. Lucky to get 50 cents on the dollar of what you spent, and damn lucky to sell it at all. Been there tried that.

I couldn't agree with you more! I've never heard of someone selling a used race____(fill in blank spot) and getting anything near what they're looking for. Also, I don't think setting the world record for towing speed is adding to the value any.

Bingo! Maybe 75 cents on the dollar if it is as new, but ONLY if it is proved to be as new.

Whatever you THINK it's going to cost, double that number. :D

It nickel and dimes you to death. The long block is only 1/2 the battle.

Cheapest 1000HP would be:

Rods, two huge CP3's, huge single, and buttloads of nitrous.

It would be a kamikaze motor.

You pretty much just described my motor build lol.

We have a close family friend who builds turbo charged Toyota motors and engineers performance parts geared towards that industry. He works out back of
His house in a little shop. Has all the high tech fancy stuff in there and all that. It is rediculous what he spends on R&D. And that is why he has to charge so much for the things he builds. Some of these companies have invested millions into designing and testing these high performance parts we all crave. But at the end of the day they need to make their money back, and then some. So a set of badass cylinder heads is gonna cost you your left testicle. And a couple badass cp3's is gonna suck to pay for but that shit wasn't designed and made for free so you gotta pay to play.

If PPE wants $40,000 for their motor then that's that. Too much? Then go build your own. I'm having a hard enough time trying to cash flow this BBC build I'm doing. Could not imagine trying to build the dmax motor at this point in my life. I'd rather have a hefty down payment for a house.

I paid $18,000 for a 13 second truck. Engine came with the rest of the truck though :roflmao:

Fix'd for you Bri Bri....

This is quite a thread. I agree with the general consensus that the depreciation may be a little off, but honestly it's worth whatever someone is wiling to pay for it.

Granted, I imagine Dan realizes we are all thinking the price is high. He will either find a seller, not sell the engine, or reduce the price.

Beating the dead horse doesn't seem effective.

I disagree, what if you want ground horse. You've got to keep beating it until it's just right!

Well said:thumb: It is up to Dan what he asks for his belongings and that is fine. Just seems to me like he actually believes that because this was all built by PPE that its worth its weight in gold which is not the case. It is a race engine no matter how you look at it and should be sold as such, which means you lose your ass;)

I wish I had 38k laying around to spend on my motor. I probably have spent that in the last 4 years on turbos, injectors, cp3s, intercoolers, building a new motor this year, broken drivetrain parts. If you add it all up I might be close to that amount. I guess I'm not very far up the ladder cause I dont waste a lot of money.

If getting over 1000hp costs you more than 20k you need to stop. Spend your money on what counts. Everyone sees the word billet and thinks its needed. Half of this billet Shit cracks me up. Maybe do some research, call around, find out what you can do yourself. It does nickel and dime you with the little stuff, but not to a crazy extent.

Nice!

Very well said! It's not that hard as some would like others too think. I'm not cutting on PPE they make a good product. They can ask what ever they want, it's theres. I spent a TON on my first build in 2008. I came from the gasser world and things that make big power over there are mostly not needed over here. Big air, big injectors and a soild bottom end and 1K is no problem.

X2, they do have the right to ask what they want, everyone does. I heard a haisleys 2.6 turn key motor with a 1200hp dyno sheet is 60k I believe.
