Iirc I got everything snug then added a hole on both sides and double checked backlash. then tq caps

I know the whine started about 2800 miles ago.. basically 200 miles into my Laredo TX run and I ran home empty last week.

I'm really wondering if the fact that I went soon long on the oil and I was rolling 36,000lbs through hills of Kentucky, the oil broke down enough to let metal on metal contact.. for better part of 800 miles after I changed the oil.. I was wiping metallic stuff off the dipstick.. every time I did it got less and less.

It's possible but if that happened, it hurt the gears and you should see a lip on the edge of the contact areas. 2800 miles with what you pull will show quick as hell on there

My explorer eats crush sleeves about every 75k, I replace it and it's good to go for another 75.
This time I'm going to replace it, set preload and pull it apart and have the machine shop build a steel one.

I'm pretty sure.mine was because I didn't maintenance the fluid like I should have...$900.00 in parts..
8qts of $20.00 synthetic 75/140 diff oil is a lot cheaper
Currently got 85/140 conventional going in

I put 85/140 Walmart brand oil in when I did the gear swap last year.. it took ~100k miles of abuse then broke down Causing excessive wear... Honestly say that's pretty darn good all things considered, no?

Ford limited slips are picky sob's

I'm running the 80-90 in my truck. Had 40k on the royal purple I dumped and it looked new, but the gov bomb didn't work right, put junk in it, works a lot better than it did, it'll at least spin two wheels most times now.

The ford on the other hand, I have to run full sun 75-140 and a tube of trans x additive so the clutch packs don't chatter and bind up and it has to be changed a lot.

I got a 8.8 in the back of my Malibu wagon.. 3.08 Detroit true Trac.. 35k on it so far. O issues yet..

Summit/jegs sell spacer/shim preload stuff for 8.8s

Yup, I have a f150 8.8 going under the back of my tracker with spartan locker and 5.13 gears (stock tracker 5.13s are the whiney ones I was talking about earlier). The Detroit is a better limited slip than the ford setup.

The G80 uses clutch packs in there as well so keeping oil from being too slick keeps it working well. The damn governor and drive gear really let them down

All this talk of rear ends would the G80 benefit from convention vs synthetic? I run the Mobile 75-90 synthetic ls bla bla stuff but if plain Jane 75-90 will work better I'll start using that in the back. Front I'd assume whatever is fine but I'm no differential wizard

cant base it off that. it would be like putting a thinner ring gear on or smaller pinion in and trying to use the same exact settings as you had before, they wont work.

when you set the gears up this time, put as much drag on the ring gear you can when you spin the pinion to get the best marking on the gears with the marking compound.

I'm not.. logic would say it probably didn't help the situation.

And usually that's the plan
