Actually my machinist has gotten into forging knives lately. Has a nice little oven if we wanta do it slowly. He's just never done anything that important before..

Most of the videos I've watched on heat treating shafts, they just heated it up cherry red with a rosebud, then tossed it in a pan of oil. But that seem a bit old school...

If he's got a heat treatment oven then by all means do it. I make knifes too and built my oven/kiln. PID temperature controlled too

Get yourself a little stainless foil and wrap it up. Soak it somewhere around 1625-1650* for maybe 1/2 hour. Then dunk it in water. You can wrap it up like a tootsie roll so you can pick it up by one end and cut off the other so it drops right out into the water.

Temper at ??? Maybe 900-1200*. This is where you will have to decide on what kind of yield strength you want.

No, waiting for spot on the dyno. Sled pulling and boating season seem to conflict.

However, as of today the boat is just coming outa paint. So now the owner is anxious to get things finished in time to attend a major poker run next month.

Where’s the poker run at?

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for...

Joe, we are looking to make the Lake Cumberland Poker Run.

Really wanted to do LOTO shootout this year. Maybe do a little side by side run against a certain C-powered Skater.. But that's just 4 weeks away. So Cumberland is next big boating event.

Lol.

I just read up on that lotto

I’m sitting on the water now at the 34.5 mike marker. That race would be right where I’m at. Crazy.

That's the spot..

Actually best place to watch from is up on the cliff where they hang the radar gun off a 40' pole. Now imagine flying by that point at 200+ mph trying to center up on the gun for best reading.

Below is Top Gun last 3 yrs. LOTO recently cut that course back to 3/4 mile, and this quad BBC, 9000hp monster still clipped off 204mph. Down from her best, 217mph in the 2016 on older standing mile course.

Overall record is held by twin turbine "Spirit of Qatar" at 244 MPH. Likely be fastest run forever, since they shortened the course to make it safer. And that team disbanded. Finally we've invented a motorsport too expensive for the Arabs....

Unless there's something recent, the big black and silver cat you thinking of has a pair of Industrial Injection Cummins in there now. Same one I mentioned above, that shold be there for the shootout. That Wagler Dmax with lexan valve covers, most of it is setting under a tarp in a boat shop in Michigan...

Picked up remaining pieces of the dyno driveshaft adapter tonight. Gotta balance the hub, harden that shaft, then press everything together tomorrow.

This piece would make a nice generator adapter when we're are done. Or maybe the first Duramax sprint car. LOL

:woott:

Yeah. I’m talking about the duramax one.

Why didn’t it get finished?

kid - would love to see your boat with Duramax's running with Tyson's Skater. It's not really an equal comparison, but would sure be neat to see. I know he's been having some issues with the II engines, but hopefully he gets them worked out.

In a 3/4 mile run, I'd generously spot him a few boats... :spit: While on the big end, that Skater hull should be substantially faster. But gearing has him limited at about where I plan to top out. He needs my drives.

My problem is, Tyson has the only decent set of un-cut 17.25" x 40 pitch props around. So I'm hoping we can get together early Sept and test.

If this powertrain setup checks out, might see a Dmax-DCB on the horizon. ;)

Wrapping up the charge cooler tubing. Things are getting pretty tight on the back side of engines. A couple tubes need some tweaking, but ya can still get a lifting strap through the eyelet on rear cover without obstruction.
