I doubt if the power will go up much, if at all. The Allison won't change untill 2016 or so. Think there will be a hybrid of some kind when this happens. Don't be surprised to see the torque converter disappear one day soon and see 2 big cables coming out of the bell housing.:happy2:

Seems like the CVT's have failed horribly in the vehicles that are out now? Hopefully Allison is a few steps ahead?

CVT transmissions have been conceptualized since 1490. You'd be surprised how long they've existed and are used in many applications that range from combines to cars to drill presses. There are many variations of a CVT. Hell CVT's were so efficient that they were banned by Formula One racing. I think it would be fantastic if Allison can engineer a CVT to withstand the high torque output. CVT's maximize power output by selecting RPM that will be most effective. They also get much better fuel mileage. No gears. It's constantly selecting RPM to maximize efficiency for a given engine speed. Probably run significantly faster at the track since there's no gear shift and RPM drop. Your turbo would stay spooled throughout.

Sure would give Mike L. a dynamic work environment.

That makes more sense. I was more-so stuck on the Saturn/Ford CVT's from roughly the past 10 years.

guys nobody said it was going to be a CVT............why are we all talking about CVT's?

This is exactly how incorrect rumors start spreading.

There are several other kinds of automatic transmissions (besides CVT's) that dont use converters, and dont use "conventional" automatic transmission theory of operation you know.......

CVT's can handle the torque of a pickup... Check out the dyna vt transmission in a massey 8690 tractor... it's a true cvt... no clutches, it blows my mind..

That would be sweet, but I highly doubt it.

Also I didn't realize columbus was on the cutting edge in 1490..... I am surprised how long they have existed.
