I posted this up here months ago. At this point we don't know if this trans will be in the Duramax. There has been talk of Ford and GM using the same 10R160 10 speed trans in the diesel trucks.

I think GM would be foolish to abandon the Allison in their 3/4 and 1 ton diesels. That is a major marketing tool for them.

TX of course
I don’t know that the Allison brings many people to GM. I bet most don’t even know about Allison outside of GM. It already has a bad rap among your average owner for being weak once you put on a tune.

Are they still using parts out of the caravan on it? :D

They are basing the new trans off of the Hellcat 8 speed. The Hellcat ZF 8HP90 is probably the best car and light duty trans made. It's known for holding 1K horsepower in stock form. We shall see.

I thought I saw it in a GM public press release. Official data was it is only in 3500 so far, says 8speed for 2500 but that's probably just the addition on the 6.2 into the 2500 series. I would hope GM keeps Duramax Allison combo in 2500 but who knows...

Gasoline: the current models’ 6.0L V8 L96 will be replaced with a new 6.6L V-8 gasoline engine making around 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, mated to:
A new GM 8-speed heavy duty automatic transmission for Sierra 2500HD models
A new 9-speed Allison heavy duty automatic transmission for Sierra 3500HD models
Diesel: the 6.6L Duramax Diesel L5P engine introduced for the 2017 Sierra HD will likely carry over with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque mated to a new 9-speed Allison heavy duty automatic transmission

I saw that also, I just figured the 6.6 was a misprint? That would be a big gasser.

That means the Allison will be a hybrid with throttle off battery recharge.
