I just sold my 2011 LML and it was smog tested while being hooked to ob2 port and it passed with with 0.6 out of 30. Dpf and urea delete and Kory tuned it. It was a sigh of relief when it passed.
Its all fun and games untill you really have to allow a smuck to rev your wife up 3 times while you watch helplessly:ban-hump:. Give it 10 years, the test will turn from simple motor rev to you having to submit an oil sample to the state to determine if there is enough kool aid

As soon as my built motor is finished, you can snap rev it to 4,800+ RPM. Heck, you can hold it to the floor for 5 minutes if you want to pay for the fuel.

100k miles later (and 300k on the clock), and it still drove great when I tore the motor down to put in stronger rods, etc. And I beat on that motor.
It's because he's being told to by a shit ass politician (ultimately). It's has nothing to do with the free rev.
If the OBD tests for the diesels are anything like the gassers, they will be easer to pass than the sniffer tests. I had a 2001 gas Silverado with a stroker 408, turbo with a bad seal (burnt oil at idle), and a new cam that I hadn't tuned for. No cat, loping like crazy, and a little bit of burning oil out of the tailpipe. Pulled in, shut off truck, popped hood, guy looks real quick, plugged in, no codes (thank you EFILive), tested gas cap, pass. I think the more tasks are turned over to a machine, the less attention the techs will pay.
thunder550, those "techs" you refer to are not the sharpest pencils in the box. When I took my 82 elephant in the guy had a dumb look on his face when looking at the remote P/S fluid filter, I believe he may have been mistaking it for the charcoal canister that lower GVWR trucks have. Still after 20 years they are searching for catalytic converters on the truck, been in that "go look at the book" check the GVWR conversation too many times.....:rofl:
Actually they are suppose to LOOK for emission device tampering or removal. Also make sure there are NO stored codes or Mil requests etc etc
ya, when it comes time I'll be hoping for one of the lazy techs. That won't feel like bendin over to look under the truck.
Heck, they plugged into mine 2 years ago, looked for the cat and I had to tell them where the EGR was :roflmao:

I have seen them on the side roads here doing tests and I hear up north near Yuba they are checking with a DOT officer and towing rigs on the spot.

Man if they did any form of emission testing here in KS 90% of cars and trucks on the roads would be towed and scrapped... shitty old farm trucks and gasser cars where the entre back of the car is sooted over.
Im glad I don't have this headache, when they do a "snap test" where they free rev it is the engine up to operating temperature? I hate to hear an engine free rev, but that's what rev limiters are for. Now a cold motor bouncing on its limiter is never good I just picture those dry bearings and lobes and walls... not good

i get to take mine in for the AZ test next month. lets see if i get some "smart guy" again who cant read his computer screen and tells me im missing my cat :roflmao:
James, Arizona/ Maricopa County allows you 90 days prior to the registration expiration to have it tested.
I hate Emissions it's DUMB but another way to soak you out of money! Diesel 10k and over are exempt something like that it might be higher don't recall off hand. All gasser must go 4 years old and OLDER.
By law Federal Emission standards are what under warranty for 5 years 50 k ? So if you have a check engine light on your going to get a free fix so why would you drive around with the light on?
So anyway I got the postcard for the Audi and gave it the finger and tossed it! :roflmao: Well I forgot about it and the reg came up and low and behold the wont let you register you car! That sucks had to go first then spend a good part of my day at DMV and last week I received a bill from DMV for $20 for being late! If I don't pay it they wont register ANY cars in my name!
