doesn't hurt anything to rev it to the rev limiter, that's what its there for. we raise our rev limit in tuning all the time

The whole point I am trying to make is, that if the truck revs to the limiter or beyond I want it to be on my own accord, and not some smuck being told to do so by politicians. I agree to disagree.

not lookin forward to this whole emissions testin bs, we've never had them up here in cache county(extreme northern Utah) until this year. Due to the geography, its a big bowl, 1 or 2 days during the winter we get inversions which supposedly make us have the worst air in the country for those couple days so the EPA blackmailed the county into implementing emission testing by threatening to cut road funding and such. from what I hear the obd2 check and a visual inspection is what they're gonna do.

I know I'll have Ta find a cat and muffler atleast for the test, not really sure what to expect. Will the obd2 test be able to tell the egrs been tampered with even with the fingerstick installed? What about tunes, is it necessary to return it to stock?

Any test can be passed, bring it on EPA.
Better tuning & better products are developed as fast or faster than emissions testing devices/laws. It will always be the back and fourth game.

And it's not going to rev beyond.

I can't believe someone is concerned by engine damage due to free revving. Have you ever floored your truck, it shifts at the top of the rpm range and it's under load. It's almost like they designed it to be able to do that. Of all reasons to not want emissions testing, this has to be the silliest reason I've ever heard of.

Its the principal behind it not the actual free rev. Sure there might not be damage but your going to tell me that your truck magically doesn't experience the wear from running it at 3200 rpm compared to not having to snap test it. So your telling me GM engineers designed your motor components to the endurance limit so that it doesnt experience a fatigue failure? Yes we are talking about small numbers compared to the number of cycles your components can take, however is it still not present?

Its just a silly point yes but its just the concept behind it of when is the crazy ideas going to ststop? If everyone says yeah silly idea stupid to protest that silly idea, before you know it they will require you to replace your motor every 8 years in the name of clean air.

Ps I am going on a snap test round robin, any volunteers to allow me come to your place floor your motor and then leave?

I have to rev mine 4 times, one to verify governor operation the other 3 times for a snap test with a tube connected to the exhaust pipe and this has to be done every year.........

I'm just glad my Cobra passed smog today. :thumb: It failed Friday because of a dead battery. Had to drive it around this weekend to get all the monitors online again.
I know it's a dirty job, but someone has to drive this beast around.:D

I've had my LBZ OBD tested 3 times now. Takes me about 3 hours to throw the stock exhaust on, get checked, stop at the DMV to get my new stickers and then swap the exhaust back to the 4" I have never had stock programming for the OBD test and it has never been an issue. Not sure how the DPF stuff impacts things, but in Ohio, no codes, no lights and we are good to go.

Shall I go do it and then post the video so you can see how much damage I causeoil to my motor?

Never once did I say so much damage would result, but what I am saying is that damage is possiable, and its the damage you don't see. Its like everything you could choose to rev her up everyday and never see major failure, i could pull a trailer and it could blow.. Let me be clear, iam not stating that your motor is going to blow by hitting the rev limiter, now thats "silly". What i am saying is its the wear and tear that your motor will experience compared to that of a motor that didn't have to perform the test. (Is a 200000 mile motor different then a 190000 motor, yes by 10000 miles). Iam splitting hairs with this argument, but to simply agree/allow the process to happen without any oposition because its "silly to think my motor will blow" has started you down a dark sheepish road. When cats, egr etc came out people found away around them, but now look so many years later we are urea, dpf snap test. What happens in the next 10 years if we just go along with the program, and allow whatever to happen today without saying no way? Yes maybe today the emissions testings don't hurt your motor but what about tomorrow?

I will take both you up on your offer, iam in California for a couple of days, so I will stop by and snap test your truck (a couple extra times to make sure she passes, got to be sure:hug:) while allowing you to film it. When I get back to Utah we will do the next truck with accompanying video. Hell I will just open a diesel shop, Snap Test R Us, you bring your truck and I. Repeatedly lay into it for how ever long I please just to make sure she will pass. Sound good, o and I charge $50.

Get a grip man. It's not like they're revving your wife up 3 times. It's a machine and it can take it in stride.
Now that I think about it; I used to rev my wife up 3 times and no damage.:happy2::roflmao:
