I've been contemplating doing a remote mount at some point in time too. People don't seem to like it when you show up for a pull with twins even if its just a small set but i like the hood stack and like how it would be easier to get to the turbo. Im pretty sure I can do a remote mount cheaper than buying a pedistal and messing with the downpipe and intake on a valley mounted single or the EDP remote mount kit. A friend of mine is pretty handy with a tig welder and he loves stainless. I think ill probably go over the valve cover or around the front of the motor because in my head it seems like it would be easier to make the pipes easily removable with one of those two routing schemes.

With the way my setup is, everything can be removed without lifting the cab one fraction of a inch. Also keep in mind the material I am using is much larger and thicker than normal SS stuff so if that is what you were going to use, going behind the motor and keeping the top of your engine clear would still work. I just love the look of the engine bay being open and cleaned up with hardly any pipes showing face. I also like the whole "short and to the point" method AJ used when building these.

oil. It can't drain and needs to be pumped back up to the engine. Dirt. you can't just slap an air filter on the turbo and go, there is a TON of dirt kicking around under there, even on the interstate. Water. You'll have to plumb the intake up someplace, and there really isn't a good spot to take it that won't make the suction side of things way too long. Heat. Turbos like it, and you loose most of it by the time the exhaust gets there. This can be worked around by sizing the turbine correctly, however you're still loosing alot of useable energy there, and hence having to further choke the exhaust to get it back. Just my take, in the end the choice is yours. If you do this be sure to take pics! :thumb:

Wow mr negative in the corner over here:rofl:

all these things can easily be taken care of. The only thing I don't like is pending the lenght of the exaust piping but that ain't bad

you could put it inthe bed and run seperate oil systym run the intercooler in the bed even.... Tons of possibilitys! Keep a open mind and wallet:D

or u could just cut and paste

rather then doing the Banks Big Hoss intake. could you do one that is just 1 large tube that goings into the intake? not sure if anyone will understand me... just thought then you could have a 3in pipe coming right from the IC and it wouldnt be very long...

When we have time to finish ours this winter, it will look something like this. The mockup pieces look like the Big Hoss but will be joined together like a true sheetmetal intake.

Have you seen the new diesel power? There is an article on banks new marinized dmax that used a runner intake with an air to water intercooler intigrated into it. It also has one inlet.

Didn't know that stating facts was considered being negative...besides, seems you missed the fact that I was talking remote mount, and the OP was talking about a side mount. I agree there are tons of possibilities, but with every one that solves one problem it creates another, or trades off an advantage. There are advantages, ease of maintainence and such...But there is a reason that the factory turbo was placed where it was. ;)

Really? define remote its not in the factory spot there for some will take it as remote you think way to hard on things Mike an the factory didn't intend on s480 being Were an ihi was before :thumb: its all in ones opinion or perspective

Ever wonder why the flow was reversed on the cylinder head design of the light duramax? Exhaust flow into the valley insted of down and around the engine? So the turbo can be mounted as close to the exhaust port as possible. If I over-think things Jake, then what is it that you do?

I am having a hard time following what your point is or where you were going with this? Basically, what is your point?

Turbos like heat. the further you remove the turbo from heat the worse it is going to perform. The more you tighten the turbine housing to negate the loss of heat the more you are going to force drive pressure up. But what do I know, I'm just an "over thinker".

For more in depth explanation, read the book by Corkey Bell.

You can move the turbo and have shorter piping then the stock setup.;)

I did it with my remote mount. Or is it a side mount. No, can not be side mount when the turbo is in front.:D

You seem to know it all Mike. So what is it?:joker:

Yet again did I ask for a smart ass answer they did that on the light truck for spool up an less heat loss everyone understands that no need to be a dick head Mike I was just stating you were kinda thinking to far into the question so no need to be a dick now is there
