I'm also torn between the QA1s and the Bilstein/Firestone shock. This is my problem. I run 315 BFG when im not at the track, to clear these I had the torsion bars maxxed out. A few weeks a go, we went over a bump and my driver side torsion adjustment bolt stripped from having too much stress on the bolt I guess. I do not want to get a leveling kit because I still lower the front end at the track.

What I want is something that takes some of the stress off of the t-bar, thats why I was looking into the Air shock. But I also heard that the Bilsteins are not good for the track so I was looking into getting the QA1s, not only for being good at the track but also for the adjustment capabilities.

Would it be possible to infuse the air shock with the QA1?

Thanks guys!

i dont think the air over bilstiens will solve your problem unless they are 3-4 in longer than stock to take load off the tbar once inflated; wich they arent as far as i know .

shock is not the solution to your problem i would just fix the bolt and make shure your not over cranking the bars , and get a quality shock absorber . with the qa1's you will need shock extenders if you dont allready have them.

Another option for the install on the front QA1 shocks is to remove the lower shock mount and weld the holes shut,Then drill a hole to fit a 1/2"bolt.

I was going to do what Trent did but i didnt have stock shocks and the bushing was a bigger bushing that i did not want to use.

Basically Josh, the lower shock mount on the control arm holes are too big. So if a guy puts a hardened steel washer the same size as the Inside Diameter of the QA1 bushing, and welds it to the outside of the shock mount, he basically just made the shock mount hole smaller and can use the smaller bolt that is needed for the QA1.

Make sense??

like Simon said , you have 2 choices use a bigger bushing like i did or a smaller bolt like he did . the stock bolt and holes are 14mm, the QA1 comes with a 1/2" bushing . so our 14mm bolt will not fit .

I understand now. I didn't know exactly what was being welded and drilled or why.

glad they worked out for ya i hope to get a bit more out of them myself just have to figure out a way to launch @ 3000 rpm instead of 2750

Air bags

Ken, The air bags are a lifting add there is no dampening with them. Thats the problem with regular shaocks, we need more dampening. We (drag racers) need a lot to control the weight(unsprung weight) of these trucks. Jeff

Trent are youu sure they would help any on the back since you already have air bags?

seams ken is talking abuot useind a stiffer spring to control the wieght (stiff spring/soft shock setup) vs opposite what jeff is talkign about (soft spring/stiff shock)

seams the latter would more user friendly to at the track adjustability.

i get that right?
