So, buy the L5P bolts along with the cooler? Knowing GM, those suckers will be pricey.

Get the specs on them, Ace Hardware has metric flange bolts for a lot less.

You might be able to but the shank would be rrreeeaaallll close to hitting the threads. You still need two bolts either way

You will need 2 8mmx1.25 120mm long bolts and 3 8mmx1.25 40mm long bolts for the other three mounting bolts of yours are too long. My ace only had 110mm long bolts and they are too short so I ordered 2 in from Allen’s fasteners. Couldn’t find a flanged bolt in that length so you may have to buy GM bolts with the cooler if you want them all to match or change them all out so they match

The new cooler is 20mm where the old coolers are 13/16”.

the lml manifold fits quite well. Just need a touch of clearancing on this heat shield mount (bottom rear)

Also, i don’t know if lbz and up will be an issue but lly/lb7 guys, you will need all new bolts. The 3 short ones are too long by about an 1/8” and the two long are wayyyyy longer than your stock ones. I have double stacked washers on the 3 short bolts for now to just hold it in place. You will also need a third bolt for the elbow.

Could someone help me with what port my temp sensor needs to be placed in. Which of the Allen plugs is it

made my own from one of the factory plugs

That is an awesome ideal! Will definitely be doing that to mine. I have been scouring all my vendors and have not been able to locate a 20mm- 13/16 adapter any where!

Why are you trying to go to 13/16? Most temp probes are 1/8npt.

top one might work well. i had searched parts stores as at the time, i wasnt going to wait for an adapter to get the engine in and running... that changed :roflmao:. it will need a gasket of some sort for sure.

i dont know that yet. Honestly, the issue will become two fold. The bigger cooler will be great at bringing oil temps down at the cost of putting all that heat into the cooling system. If you really want to keep temps down (both coolant and oil), you are going to need more cooling capacity and this cooler but i dont know if it will get rid of the external all together.

when my truck is finally up and running reliably, i plan to do a trip or two before the new truck comes in and i wont be running my external oil cooler (sandwich adapter wont work on the new cooler). After what i saw pulling the hills from the dunes with leaky heads and oil temp staying way down from the aux radiator, i have hope but 80* is not the same as 105-110*. Hopefully its plenty because i dont feel like spending the cash on more parts for the truck when it wont see towing duty hardly at all.

the external is by no means a bad way to go, specially if you keep it out of the cooling stack. its not as efficient but you dont put added heat back into the cooling system and it brings oil temps down a significant amount.

I may be wrong, but from the photos James posted where he dilled and tapped the plug, it looks almost like there is a chamfered edge at the end. And maybe even one on the flange. I would bet this is the means of sealing. The ones you linked to seem to be cut at a 90* and would not seal properly against the internal chanfered surface

You are correct, hence I suggested a gasket of some sort (copper washer?) that’s hopefully wide enough to seal up. Just don’t know how well that will do under pressure in the long run
