I have been needing to do this for quite some time as the battery in my laptop is old and does not hold a charge and money is always a little on the short side so I'm being cautious.
Testdrive suggested this awhile back and EFI is pretty clear about using a 12 volt power supply to the laptop from the rear cigarette/power port. Testdrive has been using his laptop for years with no issue by adding a switch to cut off power to the OBD-II port and use the power supply plugged into the power port behind the console.
Does it work after cutting power to the OBD-II port, yes...
While installing the switch I added a piece of aluminum angle to get it up and out of the way, I don't sport a size 12 shoe but was still a little concerned as I leave the cable in the truck, should lessen the chance of breaking the OBD-II port when applying the parking brake... :thumb:
Looks like I'll have to either set the time date stamp correctly on my camera or turn it off...
New 250 amp alternator next week....:thumb:
