If our Cp3 pumps are getting "sticky" or already lacking lubrication with diesel fuel, Methanol or nitro is going to eat away at them. Id imagine it would do a number on injectors also. I dont think injecting it through our common rail would work too well, but id like to see someone try nitro in a water meth injection kit.;)

Is "that guy" Rich (Unbroken)??

So what common diesel additives are the "best" to give someone that "edge" that you are referring to?

IMO......Pat + nitromethane = Boom. But it'd be interesting to watch.....

Yes, that's him. ;)

Seems ALL the cetane boosters use the 2-ethylhexyl nitrate. (From now on I'm calling that 2EN until I find the right nickname).

Need to do more research. Seems though it's basically a more stable version of nitromethane.

Nitroethane would also be a candidate as well as nitropropane. But I like the fact that 2EN has 3 oxygens in it.

I guess the whole reason for this thread has to do with more with an attitude than a chemical.

Seems there are some chemicals that are "worthy" to the old-schoolers, but others are disgusting and not really "diesel".

I'm sure Preston or Dockboy can correct me, but here is what I understand (from an Old-School perspective):

Acceptable Drugs:

Ether
Oxygenating agents mixed in fuel

Unacceptable drugs:

Synthetic diesel (it's actually just pure #2 diesel)
CNG
Water + methanol
Nitrous
Propane
European racing diesel fuel

I apologize to the few Dodge guys who don't agree with this philosophy. Seems I painted with too broad of a brush. Guys like John Robinson are true gearheads who are looking for ways to make their cars and trucks faster, not just looking at ways to discredit anyone who doesn't use the "right" drugs.

The original diesel fuel was peanut oil, so the "old-old-school" would say petroleum products aren't "diesel fuel". Nobody would buy into that, so why would anyone proclaim they own the "official list" of "true diesel fuels"?

Banks, Stuckey, Californians, Common Rail racers, etc, are routinely slammed on the internet by the "old-school" guys. Banks is evil because they use nitrous, and it's claimed they run exotic fuels and CNG (which is probably not true). Stuckey is slammed because they use nitrous. Californians because... uh... they are from California. Common Rail racers because they don't smoke as much as "real diesels".

This is only significant because some diesel organizations buy into it, both publically, and in their rulebooks. I say "horse poop". They should spend their energy on their racing instead of mounting a PR campaign against those who run different setups.

Make no mistake, I'm a GM guy, so I write from that prospective. That pisses folk off, but that's in my job description. When issues come up that affect Duramax racers, I'm going to side with the Dmaxers. But there is no "balance" yet. The old-schoolers run the show as far as organized competition goes so far. But in the long run, they will have to accomodate newer trucks or get left in the dust.

Acceptable Drugs:

Ether Not really a drug...used for starting low compression motors only
Oxygenating agents mixed in fuelWe all use those...new or old school

Unacceptable drugs:

Synthetic diesel (it's actually just pure #2 diesel)Some are experimenting
CNGHolding my opin ion untill I learn more about some stuff I've heard
Water + methanolUsed by many "old schol" guys
NitrousSomelike it....some don't. NOt considered Unacceptable by all "old schoolers"
PropaneWorth 50 hp MAYBE...not really used in competition as a power adder
European racing diesel fuelSome are experimenting

My thoughts are in red..........

Ether: When you use to it "get up on the charger" for staging, you are using it to race, not "start the engine". A small shot of spray does the same thing, but is safer. If someone stages with nitrous, but doesn't run the pass with it, is it a nitrous truck?

I think if you re-read some of the threads on CompD, you'd see the rest of your opinions aren't necessarily held by that many "old-schooler's". Hard to say that with a straight face, since most are under 40 years old. Just do a search on Banks to get a better feel for the group concensus.

To an extent, the internet can be highly misleading. Often the "big time" racers don't post much, so others post for them. This leads to embellishment concerning topics like drugs and such. In both directions.

But it boils down to the fact using drugs in competition is not accurately shown the internet. It is hidden by PR for support of "desireable" drugs, and villifying of "evil" drugs.

I was just doing some "destructive testing" for you! :D

We ran more passes that event than any other ProStreet truck. About 12 passes IIRC. We would have run more, but some of the Dodge guys got embarrassed and told us to stop. ;) Most the trucks broke that weekend.
