I grew up around guns, and they were not locked in a safe. I also had a dad who taught me right and wrong, and would bust my ass when I needed it. I think our biggest problem is our moral compass, the way kids are raised is different, the media really loves violence, and let's face it people treat each other like shit a lot more than let's say 20-30 years ago. We took god out of schools,we give more rights to assholes then we do normal good hearted people. Its sad, raise your kids the best you can and try to protect them and teach them how to protect themselves. My girls ,except the baby know how to shoot, disassemble and clean a firearm. They respect guns,we don't have them laying around the house ,in fact they have pepper mace which if they ever had to use a weapon I hope they could use that first. Not preaching but as a parent I try to pass on some of the things my old man taught me,it still makes me sick to know that some ***** does not value life and does this to babys.

Great post. A long time ago we decided drugs should be illegal. Guess what, bad people sell them on the streets to youth and others in order to get a lifelong customer and even worse people are organized in producing said drugs and bypassing border safety and law enforcement to get them in circulation. My point? Make guns illegal and honest people will have no way to defend their families/themselves. Bad people will always get a hold of guns illegal or not. They don't care.

This country has never been invaded. People of the world know If they come here they will have to fight more than our troops. Take guns away and maybe someday an enemy might get brave. When Mr "gun control" sees terrorists or enemies breaking down his door to kill his friends and children, he's gonna wish that "gun toting redneck" that lives next door could help.

Can you imagine how happy organized crime will be if civilians can't own guns? Drug addict burglars will no longer care if you're home or not to steal your possessions, perscription drugs, and yes your guns. Be careful "mr gun control" what you wish for.

As a side note where I live there is at least 1(often 2) armed police officer stationed full time at every public school in the city. Not full proof by any means but a good start .

Pro/anti gun who cares? You guys are doing the same thing the media is.

At this point, the focus needs to be on the list of names I read in the front page this morning, not the side show politics capitalizing on this mess.

Why do they need so much of our focus? What is that going to accomplish? People die every day and yes children die everyday too. The whole country is fixated one this one event. When several children die from abuse/ poor decisions everyday. Are they not deserving of our focus? Everyone is someones child.

Have you ever been to a funeral during a week day? Watching everyone one going about there daily lives. Pissed off that your holding up traffic while fallowing your love one in a Hurst.

I'm already getting sick of this story getting crammed down my throat and its only day 2.

I mean, separation of the two, any decision made off the horrid event will unlikely be effective and most likely be a knee jerk reaction.

Already reading/hearing too much about more gun control etc.

Ryan said it best at the end of the one awkward interview where the reporter tried to push him into saying something stupid, America does not have a gun problem, America has a crime problem. The media glamorizes what this guy did, and sets a bar for other phucked up people out there as to what the standard is to cause pain. I bet this is exactly what this guy wanted. If the media would take responsibility and not even show this guy’s face, just remember those lost and what is going to be done to fix it that would IMHO help more than any gun control laws out there. If I thought handing over my guns would end violence then I would, but with the messed up judicial system that we have turning convicts right back on out the street that would end up in a disaster.

So, lets for get this guy's name and face, never post it anywhere again and move on. Do what we need to support the families that are hurting but stop giving this guy what he wants (to be all over the news)

People like this will find a way to kill, most mass shootings happen in "gun free zones" for a reason, they are phucking cowards and don't have the balls to stand up and fight like a real man. Had just 5% of the teachers been CCW, I bet it would have been different, the shooter wouldn't have been so bold, would have been slower. This angers me so much, the more I think about it the more I make a point to CCW as much as I can, I think if you go through the background checks and classes, you should have different levels to a point where you can almost be a reserve officer and carry anywhere with the right training, make these cowards wonder if around the next comer will be a 7 year old girl or that 7 year old girl standing behind someone like me with a weapon drawn defending them. Just the treat of that would slow someone down.

Can you please not use black font?

I view the forum in black, as I know others do as well, therefore I find it difficult to read your posts. I suppose I can always skip them, which I often do, but I (and other users who use the same settings) may miss something important.

At 1 time the media used to be cool,I guess on a train carring professional baseball players was running down the track and babe Ruth ran into the media car naked chasing a girl and they ran out the other end.The car was silent till 1 turned to another and said "arent you glad we didnt see that".Im with you Andrew report it and thats whhat the guy wanted and all it does is rasie the bar for the next sicko.

Was watching an interview with a former director of the FBI and he made the comment that this will never stop unless the US deals with at least 1 of 2 major issues. He said the US has one of the worst programs when dealing with mental illness and one of the most liberal gun control programs. He said they need to fix one and would prefer it was mental illness programs.

Yes. There is a default program which reverses the color selection so that the font shows up.

I usually just skip the posts that are black, or those that I feel have little importance (you learn to pick them out... page and a half signatures usually are a sign), but I thought those posting in black should know that their posts are not getting through to all. Whether they care or not is totally up to them.

I read the forums for knowledge, and I feel you can learn something from most everyone, but if people can't read certain posts we cannot learn from certain posts.

My opinion is there isn't any simple solution to things like this. I don't think banning guns is the answer, and I don't think everybody having a gun will fix it either. Clearly, we're dealing with a certain part of our population that for some reason is seriously broken and disconnected from any sense of reality or morality.

The reason normal good people don't go shooting places up, blowing up buildings, stabbing people, etc isn't because they fear getting shot by another citizen or the police. People don't do it because it violates all kinds of normal human empathy, decency, instinct, etc. Those kind of violent and senseless thoughts never cross the mind of anybody with an operational moral compass.

So how we get that back....I don't know.

In respect to my American friends I will move back to my igloo.I have been in Iraq for the last 2 years BTW and worked in every part of Mexico.....but I'm very ignorant!!

Bean pole the last thing I want to for is argue:mad:

What happened was terrible

I don't think your dumb, your obviously a smart individual to be able to achieve the status that you have on the forum. And I do not want to fight either buddy, !

I have no knowledge of your experiences, except what you have told me here. But on the same note, I have a differing perspective on things too. In a perfect world, we wouldn't be having politically charged debates in light of great tragedies like this. That is my goal within the scope of this horrible situation.

Although, it is hard to block out this silly political nonsense, coming at us from all news sources, facebook, twitter, gossip, ect ect. Silly because of timing, and method of delivery. Its easy to place blame, and anguish on fellow forum members, but understand they are only repeating what they have already been brainwashed to say in a sense! I choose to place blame at the source.

In retrospect, everyone knows my perspective on the matter now. I have nothing more to add, except that lets separate the gun issue from the tragedy thats happened here. Many people are at a great loss, and attacking each other will end up being a negative action for all parties involved. If people want to continue the political debate, I would recommend that another thread be made for that purpose.

Um, to my knowledge I use all default settings on this forum, so people that can't read my post can't read any post in the default settings?

And agreed, it is sad how quickly this became political, but everything does now, it is just the way of life. Freedom and safety do not see eye to eye, there will always be tradeoffs. What is really sad is how every major news agency out there will dramatize and do whatever it takes to get viewers to tune in, the right thing would have been to not even mention this guys name, leave him in the status of a nobody and focus on other things, but that does not get the viewers. And until the viewers get fed up with it and start turning it off it is not going to change.

This seems to happen every time there is a mass shooting, all the news coverage (or something else idk) seems to trigger a few other people on the edge to go out and do the same thing. I hope it ends soon
