X2 it is just plain sad. Something that none of us here will ever be able to wrap our heads around and figure out the why.

Exactly why children? They have reported he had mental issues . Ya I'd say so some very serious ones to do this.

The one father interviewed says it all ,he could not go home. Man oh man :(

As a dad,to no that you could not protect your baby would haunt me forever. I have a little 20 month old that just wants me to hold her when she is scared or sick,to think of those babys hearing gun shots and wanting mom and dad to make it better. Dam

I lost my 28 yo son suddenly 6 years ago this month. The pain, anguish, despair, and helplessness is indescibable. I can know what those poor parents are going through but NOT as innocent babies... My God...

Some people just want to see the world burn, and inflict pain as much as they can. It really angered me how as it was unfolding some people were already pushing gun control, when they news agencies themselves were giving this sicko what he probably wanted, to be known by everyone. I think they should have focused on those lost and never even mentioned his name, but that wouldn't sell as much, and people demand to know his name, post is picture everywhere and point at him (again what he probably wanted). It angers me that most mast shootings occur in gun free zones where there is no one to fight back, I couldn’t imagine what feelings I would go though had I been there and could have stopped it, or at least greatly slowed him down and saved a bunch of those lives.

I wish people like this didn't exist out there, but they do. My greatest sympathy goes out to parents everywhere that won't have their kids at Christmas this year (not just from this event but lots in accidents also).

Such a surreal experience. One of my wife's friends lost a godson and a cousin's friend lost her son. We're all sitting here in a complete daze. There are no words spoken or typed that can explain any of this..

As for the comment about the LEO's and first responders dealing with this..You have got to be kidding me. I've talked to 25 year guys that have seen more shit than many of us and they themselves are a mess. They're human too and if you think that being trained for this type of thing makes it easier, you are out of your mind...They have just lived through my worst nightmare.

Definition of COMPLACENT

: marked by self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies

U.S.A

(this is just a rant i have from all the things i've seen on the news and Facebook and here)

This is a tragedy for sure, i don't know why people are surprised things like this happen. Some where in time a picture was painted that America was "safe" and in my opinion anyone who thinks that lives in a bubble. The complacency of people here in the US is ridiculous and seriously at an all time high. It shouldn't take something like this to wake people up to the issues of in country. I'm not saying walk around armed to the T, but i'm saying situational awareness in knowing that ANYTHING can happen at ANYTIME goes along way. I know theres a lot of people who say " if i had a gun and something like that happened i would stop it" well… Anyone who has ever been in a situation where they've had to actually pull the trigger knows that when the element of Surprise is there it's a game changer. i'm former military, Marine infantry to be exact and i've been around and seen a few things… with that being said, instances like this are completely different than combat, no one can predict some deranged psycho kid/person doing such actions However, i do believe things like this could and should be harped on with some preparation.

Questions that should be asked are "Why weren't the doors to the school/ classrooms LOCKED during the school day"
Answer- probably because it would inconvenience someone (a parent, employee or whoever) trying to come into the school. or someone thought there was no need for it. these are standard operating procedures that aren't even being used or instilled from the higher echelon. How can people protect children when they can't even protect themselves?

This is an insane tragedy. Hard to grasp how a human can do that.

However, understand that it is "news" because it's unusual.

More kids get killed by bad drivers in the US than lunatics, but it doesn't appear in the media because it's not unusual.

In the information age, things appear larger than life.

Starvation is the #1 killer of kids in the world today, but it's not on CBS.

Countries have a history of enacting laws that erode our civil rights due to unusual events. It would be even a larger tragedy if this massacre is used as a weapon against the citizens of the US.

What a coward! I was a student at NIU during the time of that school shooting. I was dating a girl that was present in that hall that tragic day. She was never the same. It was a heart breaking event. My heart goes out to those who are in pain. I know that day at NIU changed my life forever. For example I can't go to a theater with out sitting near an exit and I don't do shopping malls very well or Walmart pretty much any place where a lot of people are present. It drives my wife nuts some times but she understands.

At the time I was a part time student working in a counter terrorist field. I was a armed guard for a Nuclear power company. When I see things like this come about it brings up old memories that haunt me. I was on my way to that hall to meet my GF after class but was too late. The shooting had already ended when I got there. Its eats me up that by some miracle I could have altered that event. It was the worst valentines day ever. This event has haunted me in manny ways and will for the rest of my life. These shootings are senseless there is no point the shooters gain nothing.

I wish I could give you guys a fairy tail ending but the girl did not become wife. We parted ways three months later after a three year run.

I dont like that the media is using this sad situation to further the gun-ban agenda. What they should be pushing is for money to be directed for mental asylums to re-open so nuts like the shooter are put away, not let loose on society. Blame the shooter, not the gun. Triggers dont pull themselves.

People like this will find a way to kill, most mass shootings happen in "gun free zones" for a reason, they are phucking cowards and don't have the balls to stand up and fight like a real man. Had just 5% of the teachers been CCW, I bet it would have been different, the shooter wouldn't have been so bold, would have been slower. This angers me so much, the more I think about it the more I make a point to CCW as much as I can, I think if you go through the background checks and classes, you should have different levels to a point where you can almost be a reserve officer and carry anywhere with the right training, make these cowards wonder if around the next comer will be a 7 year old girl or that 7 year old girl standing behind someone like me with a weapon drawn defending them. Just the treat of that would slow someone down.

I feel so bad for the family and friends of any one related ...terrible thing that has happened

Someone in this thread actually posted what guns where used, and that absolutely blows my mind that anyone would give two shits ... I know you guys love your guns but you really need to look at what is going on!
You have more deaths from hand guns than any other country in the world! If you take all hand gun deaths and total them, the USA has more than all country's totalled.
This isn't a gun debate.
Imo the media should not even recognize the killer! I've read reports that he is the second biggest killer of children. It's like a competition!
I'm sorry if some of you dont like my post, but out of all the places in world the most dangerous was Detroit USA

absolutely disgusting. I cant even imagine how the families must feel right now...my heart, feelings, and thoughts go out to them.

I just saw on NBC Nightly News (national news with brian williams, not the stupid local news idiots) that the shooter had an AR-15 and 2 pistols, a sig and a glock. Didnt specify what model sig and glock.

This post here really bothers me! Who fukin cares what gun was used ? Wtf does this matter???

The news has made this type of information relevant, because they are using it as a political move to ban guns. You do not hear the around the clock BS here on the news, your in igloo land! Guns cannot be illegal here, because its not physically possible to get rid of all of them; and because we want them. I could go on and on, but its pointless. Your just going to fire back with IDK what I'm talking about, blah blah blah...

Here's whats important, the people going through this tragedy. The political BS on tv is what is F'ed up! They are forcing this debate on America through this hard time. Don't come on here and blame us for what the news is making US endure, not you.

P.S. If you're trying to compare the U.S. to other much more dangerous places, your nuckin futs buddy! Go to Juarez Mexico, Anywhere in iraq, Hati! BTW, this happened in a "NO GUN ZONE", take it for what its worth. :2cents:

Prayers to the families of this tragedy in CT and to those of you who dont own a gun(s). You will need them one day. Who cares what kind of pistol this scum used on these kids. The smallest of arms can kill a grown adult, even a sling shot will kill. Whats important is we learn from this, for #1 dont let strangers walk into our schools. We need closed campus! In Arizona when i was in school we had gates out front and the doors were all locked. Pizza hut, taco bell, Mc Donalds was all inside our school. NOBODY came in or out unless you had a emergency or you were a parent. #2 Dont let anyone put the thought in your head that guns should be banned. If that person thinks that for one second they are not American IMO. We need guns to defent our country and our families.

Simon, the founding father's decided that they would guarantee our freedom by granting us GOD GIVEN RIGHTS in our Constitution, they knew we would have scumbag, power hungry politicians and they wanted to prevent those types from getting total control. Hence the Bill of Right, free speech, 2nd amendment, 4th amendment, 5th amendment.

We have divided government with checks and balances for a reason, right now the gridlock in our government is exactly what our founding fathers envisioned, a slow, almost impossible legislative process that no one Senator, Representative, or President can force changes without a consensus and even then the other branches can veto or override if there is enough support for something.

We have 50 States, with 50 State Constitutions for a reason, this isn't Canada, this is THE UNITED STATES, we are very, very, very guarded of our liberties and we will not let one lunatic strip us of any of our rights without a huge fight to keep them.

Democrats will always try to steal our rights by capitalizing on a tragedy, that's why we can't allow a tragedy to turn our freedoms upside down.

More people can be killed on a NYC street with a motor vehicle in less time then the gunman killed those people in CT, yet would we ban cars ot trucks if that happened ???

More people could die and did die in a single plane crash into a building on 9/11, but did we rush out to ban airplanes or close buildings ???

This is what pisses me off most, banning something that isn't the problem, the problem is scumbag Democrats like Obama, Bloomberg, Feinstein, Schumer, etc..........they are the real threat to America, not gun owners.
