Favorite took ever is Ben's chop saw. I haven't used it yet, but damn that thing is sickkkk.

The turbo "slanted" is convenient/packaged well for a few reasons and I will probably look into doing similar what that time comes. :thumb:

huh??? you make no sense!

OOOHHHH!! Favorite TOOL!!

yeah...that thing is sweet, we used it for the first time last night and already love it.

Just about as good/close to a 'real' cold saw as you can get [without spending 3 grand.]

I will never screw around with an abrasive cutoff saw again after using that thing

well we did use my big bandsaw a lot but what dave was talking about is my dewalt "multicutter"...its called a "dry cut" saw I guess, has a 14" circular saw blade, spins about 1200rpm, but is designed for metal. Its NOT an abrasive saw; the blade looks like a wood cutting blade with carbide teeth and all....but it cuts metal like butter!

no sparks, no mess, clean cuts etc...

Ok, I think I know the type of saw you're talking about.

actually not going up this weekend; turns out st. lawrence university has spring break this weekend/coming week, and Im not gonna go up, pay the court for my broken headlight, and drive right back home!

So now theres no time crunch...

Very close though, basically only working on it a few hours a night; as of right now we probably have 5 hours total into it...

here are some pics. sorry my welds are crappy, it was difficult getting the thin pipe to that thick flange without blowing through. I figured Id say that now because I know there will always be at least one person to nit-pick over the fabrication. :)

Welds look good to me. I really like that saw, I wish I knew about it 6 months ago because I bought a new chop saw then. Oh well.

Ben, tubing looks nice I like the way yours is routed :thumb:. I've never heard of those saws those are cool I was just getting ready to buy a chop saw to not now :D. I looked real quick and I found those for about $450, can they be adjusted to cut any angle? I wonder how long the blade last's they are a little $$$

welds look good, were you pushing or pulling the mig gun?

if i had to guess by looking pulling??

try pushing, you can get better bead quality because you can see the weld pool as its not behind the shield cup.

when pushing penetration isnt as good but for piping its more than enough, being doing it at work on 304 stainless process piping sched 10 (1/8" wall) and the welds look 10x better because you can have perfectly even beads

i had never even tried pushing until someone showed it to me a few weeks ago and i'm amazed at the difference, it also makes the overlaps cleaner as you can see them coming
