Dale, you didn't really put 5w30 in that old girl did you?

Log where she's getting hot in EGTs and we can tell ya easy. I dicked around with my 45 overs more than I ever care to do again lmao

5w-40 synthetic rather. The 5w-30 went into the T-case.

I went and set up all my Mil codes to off for the stuff I've deleted, added a turbo brake, LB7 idle so I can sneak out of the neighbourhood without deafening everyone.

Haven't touched timing, fuel pressure, or mm3 yet. I'll set up a pid screen with hopefully everything needed to log and post it and the tune up. I think I know what I need to do, but really worried about cooking something and with the trailer on I can't exactly just stop anywhere to make adjustments.

Here's the tune.
Can't upload the log as it's saved as a .efi file and says it's invalid. What should I change it to and how to make it upload and readable?

EGT's I csn live with for now. Running between 1100 and 1300 depending on the grade. I would prefer to have it down around 1000 eventually towing.
Biggest thing now is I need to get my fuel mileage up and my boost down. Running about 10-14 psi cruising at 50% throttle and about 1.3 degrees timining and 60-70mm3.

Still need assistance on what/how to change my log format to post it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the rpm at in that cruise area? Bump it up to 8-10* of timing there and see how she does. I ran 12* at 2000 rpm and 55mm3. Your boost is a decent psi for towing. Smooth the cells around your initial area so it all looks nice lol

The timing will help
Mpg and EGTs

1900rpm in 5th
Upped my timing by about 8 deg. Still running stock PW tables with the 45 overs so I hope I'm still good.
Attached is the tune and a screenshot. Have a look if you like and see what you think. Keep in mind it's metric!:Canada_Flag:

BOost is ok I suppose. I liked it in the 5-8 range but I can live with it for now.

Loading it now and see how it goes.

Seems to like it a little better.

Just found a fuel leak on the hp line off the cp3 though. Wish I'd done the van tstat now.

Gained about 2mpg.
Other than the obvious of bent rods, what do most people look for when adjusting timing so they know they haven't gone too far? Egt increase?

Fingers told me years ago to back it off when it starts to rattle. Its been that way for the last 130k. 10*-12* seems fine for me, but after reading some of Fingers post in Adams last rebuild that might be a little much while towing.

Oh? Don't recall what he said. I do know I don't want Adam's tuning though lol.

I'm running about 9-10.6 right now. Hope that's not going to wreck something. Seeing a light haze out of the PCV vent now. Had nothing before. Not sure if I should worry about it or not. Really don't want to crack a piston. I've already got one cylinder at -3.4, one at plus 2.9 and the others that are +/- 1-2 that's making me nervous.

Like I said, I ran 12* with 12k trailer on the back for most of the 41k miles the engine has on it now with just delipped lb7 pistons. At 14*, it rattled bad. Pulled 2* out and kept running it. im not sure id stay around that as i have yet to see my bearings but oil pressure still is great.

PW table shouldn't need messing with. Still takes X amount of fuel to get down the road at a given speed.

You can try pulling desired boost back some and see if that helps some. Vanes may be trying to make boost to get that 10-14 psi but only way to know is a drive pressure gauge or try pulling some boost out and see how egt's react as well as spool up. 7k trailer on the back is gunna need some boost to make it move along. 10ish psi ought to be enough at that speed.

how are EGTs now? you can try bumping fuel pressure up in the cruise area too. it seems to help mpg a bit.

Egt's are good. 850-1000 where I like them. I had the fuel pressure up but I think it's giving me a rattle above 2200 rpm so backed it off a bit.

Nice.

You can gain more timing out of the setup when you play with pilot injection timing too but I had way too much time in that and netted very minimal results.

Play with boost next and you will pretty much have her dialed in for fine tuning

Running about 6-9 psi on the wind sock and 850-950 on the hot stick now. I'm ok with the boost till I get a dp gauge then I can tune the vanes.

I thought these 3794 65mm BMW stg 2 Danville's were supposed to have wicked turbo brakes? Same tuning as my stocker had and about half or less the brake.

6-9psi with the trailer right? I've always got the best mileage with 2psi crusing unloaded with the stock trubo. Now sure now with the 3794 mileage seems about the same way.

The stock lbz turbo had a pretty good brake I doubt the 3794 is as good. You know people tend to exaggerate on how mods perform. I don't drive my truck enough now or in the past to have a good feel for how good it works or doesn't.

Yes with the trailer.
Mileage sucks ass still. Be cheaper to hire a tow truck if I was pushing a headwind.

I would decrease the PW table x 20% in the low to mid range. then use the timing calculator. 80+ mm3 areas should not need adjustment. just smooth them into the other.
