A hot shot from Minnesota just picked up my race truck yesterday, C&C 6.7 F450.

387k miles and fully deleted with a stock tune with DTC's turned off.

Not one problem.

Ironic.

Hey adam im glad u got it all sorted out man. I truely am sorry i couldnt get out there to you and help.

I see what brian is saying but i just dont agree. I see just as man 6.7 cummins have their issues with injectors trans and piston melting in the horse and livestock hauling. I really dont know whats harder on a truck, hauling frieght or horse trailers when u start getting that heavy. We have yet to see a big failure from our trucks but its always in the back of my mind. Only way to solve it in my opinion is a sport chassis

Damnit. I can't get you away from the damn PTW thing can I. Bore the holes 4.075" for 0.020" over and be done with it.

It was final bore was 4.098 and pistons are 4.09.. For .040 mahle says 4.095 for .040 which is .0022-.0025 ptw..

I lost a big block Chevy because of excessive ptwc allowing piston to lay over and blowup

Are the piston skirts coated?

The info you posted should be .004 as they machined it, the .008 is the total difference. So its only over by a hair.

Pistons are coated straight from Fingers via Danville.... I did 100,000 miles in 9 months this year. Had I not had all this failure I be knocking on 200,000 miles this year, if I keep that pace or close too it.. I'll be back in that engine in 12-18 months..

Pwtc is .008" its too loose to expect an engine that lives life at 3-400miles a day towing heavy to last 3-400,000 miles.

Machine shop is doing another block final bore will be 4.095 use the same pistons that have ~25k on them and new rings.. Pwtc be little looser then new piston/bore. Which I'm fine with

You said pistons are 4.090, bore needs to be 4.095, which is .005 total or .0025 ptw. If they bored it to 4.098 its only out by .0015 ptw, which isn't excessive.

The piston manufacturer has piston to wall built into the pistons. Go the the specified over bored and you have what they wanted for PTW clearance already. Only need to vary would be using the pistons in a engine that isn't necessarily designed for their specific use anyways. There are so many more issues to run into on cylinder bore than PTW anyways. I would be worried more about actual finish and quality of the machine work .

Exactly, they went .003 over mahle recommend bore size
And I didn't tell them too..

Either you had a typo or you wanted it extremely tight,

If pistons measure 4.090, and they bored to 4.098, its not worth reboring another block to shrink it down to 4.095, not gaining that much ptw clearance. It won't make or break that engine.

Yes I want a tight engine... Mahle spec new ptwc at .002-.0025"
OEM factory is .0015-.002"
Machine shop did.. .008"

I've ran loose engines they rattle and blow oil over the back of the truck and down the trailer under sustained loads..

When The LMM was done with new ovals it done at mahle recommend bore size of 4.095. For 22,000 miles no rattle and no oil down the truck or trailer from the crankcase breathers. And I hauled some serious high sail loads in that 22k miles..

Guys, I believe he is saying the bore is 0.016" larger than the piston... No way I'd run that much either. 0.008 PTW clearence.
