LML with a blown motor

Well I just had another talk with my builder and all 8 injectors failed on the lower pulse width, 102k on the injectors 4K since being reworked to 40% over. The shop said I could probably run them but there is a chance it would be hazey or cause hesitation, sounds like I'm on the hook for new injectors.

What would you do? I just talked to someone from LDS (very helpful) and waiting for some numbers but they said 60-100% would be their suggestion. Also can I sell my current injectors for more than the $800 core or is it not worth the effort to try? I don't want to screw anyone if they are useless - Im guessing the shop has the test results.

Not trying to badmouth anyone, I don't even know if they were checked after they were re-worked. I know they were tested before they were modded and all checked out. Just seemed odd that all 8 tested bad on low pulse now after 4K miles.

I thought I asked the shop to send them to exergy for the work originally but they went to II, sounds like II has them currently, the shop was facilitating so I was out of the loop.

I ordered a set of 60% from LDS a few minutes ago. Now I'm trying to figure out if I should send these 40% back as cores, possibly resell or talk to II and see if they will do anything for me.

Id just send em as cores... A whole lot less headache

That sucks.... yea no sense in badmouthing but very likely y pistons cracked considering all 8 checked bad and you had multiple cracked pistons

Probably the best call, with my luck I'd try to sell them and get stuck with 8 injectors I don't want and an 800$ core bill.

That was my thought but I don't know enough about this stuff to jump to any conclusions. Would be interesting if they could determine an actual cause of failure.

Just an update.

I picked up the truck Oct. 8th and it's running strong. I've put just over 1000 miles on it and bringing it in for a checkup/oil change/hotter tuning later today.

It still seems like the truck likes to fall on it's face when it clicks into 5th gear unless you're accelerating hard, you will hear the turbo bark then it starts pushing smoke until the turbo catches back up. Also doesn't like to downshift from 5th or 6th into 4th unless you are over 3/4 throttle, this really sucks when you are trying to pass someone without blacking out the road. This was a lot more distinct before the motor build but still there. Mike L did the trans and all but told me flat out not to do TCM tuning - anyone have any input on this? I by no means want to hurt my transmission but I think it would really help to play with the shift points & % throttle input for kick down. I'm going to have my builder or tuner give Mike a call and hopefully come up with a plan but figured some others might have already dealt with this.

Also have a code for low rail pressure (p0087) and a dead glow plug on #5 (p0675) that has come on twice when the temps were close to freezing during cold start. Haven't had a chance to swap the glow plug yet but noticed my W/S on the fass was loose and had a small leak - really hoping that's the low rail issue - I'm going to puke if my high pressure pump or new injectors have issues.

Tranny tuning is important if you want a better driving truck. You don't have to have the pressure mods done in the tuning. That's what Mike doesn't like and is referring to.

Sounds like a low rail pressure issue, fix that first, then see how it does...

I think (hope) the low rail was from the loose water separator on the fass, I've only had that code come up twice from a cold start and never while driving after it's cleared. Also never had any issues holding rail pressure before granted that was on stock injectors and briefly on 40 overs.

Will see if the code comes back but im pretty sure it has more to do with the RPM it's shifting into 5th gear, if you're in the throttle hard it holds 4th longer and shifts into 5th at a higher RPM keeping the turbo from falling off after the shift. Also runs fine if I have it in manual and shift to 5th later or manually kick it down to 4th, if I try to roll into the throttle at highway speed to pass someone it just dumps smoke unless I manually shift to 4th.
