That is cause of big tires and fixed vane charger. if you still had vvt you would be happy but yea changing shift point may fix it

Having the variable charger wouldn't fix his issues. Tranny tuning and changing his fueling will give him a much more desirable outcome.

I think (hope) the low rail was from the loose water separator on the fass, I've only had that code come up twice from a cold start and never while driving after it's cleared. Also never had any issues holding rail pressure before granted that was on stock injectors and briefly on 40 overs.

Will see if the code comes back but im pretty sure it has more to do with the RPM it's shifting into 5th gear, if you're in the throttle hard it holds 4th longer and shifts into 5th at a higher RPM keeping the turbo from falling off after the shift. Also runs fine if I have it in manual and shift to 5th later or manually kick it down to 4th, if I try to roll into the throttle at highway speed to pass someone it just dumps smoke unless I manually shift to 4th.
What rpm will that charger start making boost?

37"s with standard gearing will put him about 1600 at 75 in 6th kinda low for that charger to make air.... then think if he going 60. Agree tranny tuning prob the answer but really several factors here

I'll have to keep an eye on the RPM when the charger starts boosting, do you think a re-gear is a better starting point than trans tuning?

What gears should I be looking at? I know while towing before the build on this charger I was struggling to hold a gear with my toy hauler around 75mph, I was hoping to avoid doing gears but I'm not against it if it'll fix that too.

I know with some peoples transmissions(mostly dodge and ford transmissions) they will not warranty them if you have bigger then 35 and didn't regear it. With that being said it raising the shift points is a good idea with a bigish fixed vain turbo especially it in 5th/6th gear.

I think gears would definetly help your problem. If you do towing 4:56 would be the best. Maybe bolt on a set of stock size tires and drive it around for a day and see if that helps.
