Has anyone else heard of this? I just had a good friend loose his brand new house to a 20,000km lml he bought brand new. He was driving with his newborn all day, came home and parked it in the garage. about 30 minutes later his neighbour busted into the house and got them out safely but what the hell would cause this on a brand new truck. fire started in the engine bay

Emissions equipment? Plugged dpf and was in the middle of regen when turned off? I heard of a few 6.4's a few years back starting fires

That interesting, glad everyone is ok

Oh shit! I'm glad everyone got out ok.

When the time comes for me to have a garage big enough to park my truck I want to make sure it's far enough away from the house. I know of a few people that lost their houses because their vehicles caught fire in the garage.

I feel sorry for your buddy. He lost his truck AND house. At least he and his family are safe. The other stuff can be replaced. Human lives can't.

TX of course
Lots of things can start a fire in a vehicle. IIRC there have been a few over the years. Leaking PS fluid on hot exhaust, a short in wiring for a plow...

There have been some lmls burned that they thought started on the grid heater. Watching how it flashes the lights I can believe it. Brother's lmm does it even worse. Kinda makes me want to remove it.

My 2012 LML burnt to the ground this last weekend. My intake air heater got stuck on about this time last year but I caught it and stopped it from starting on fire by disconnecting the batteries. This time I was asleep when she lit up on the driveway.

I got lucky, I normally park my truck in my garage. It started on fire while I was visiting my parent's place over the weekend. I am pretty sure it was the air intake heater again.

No word from GM yet. They are aware of both instances in my case. I have full purchase price insurance on the truck, so I won't be out much more than some of the personal stuff I had in the truck and accessories that were installed on the truck.

I am going to buy a 14 LML but I will be installing a 200amp relay to disconnect the intake air heater from the battery on when I turn the ignition off.
